🔐 Goes without saying: still need to trust server operators are genuine (when said claims are made): as no visitor can audit these claims serverside.

Same goes for #VPN, encrypted web email providers...

Only use servers provided by those you feel you can trust, especially when going for web based encryption services.

(Although, malicious actors will be much less likely to share this information and opt instead to make fantastic claims).

I feel like maybe it would be neat if there were a #federated file-sharing site, like #PeerTube but specifically files of any format and you'd just download it. That way one instance could host a few files and other instances could have a bunch, and they'd be visible on each other or whatever. Or maybe a federated #Pastebin? Something. Certainly a federated #StackOverflow would be neat, maybe a bit like/modified from #Kbin or something.

NoPaste is an open source client-side paste tool which can be hosted as a static site. The GitHub repository has instructions for using GitHub pages or dropping the files on a static server. I was interested in trying surge.sh... so my post turned into a how-to and how-I-did for deploying NoPaste to surge.sh.

(It's a neat tool. Were I to use it more seriously... I'd put it somewhere attached to my own domain.)

It is not opt in, you have to opt out!

They're changing the TOS so you have to opt out

Details on how to disable it are on this blog post however it doesn't work on at least two of my Androids because I can't even find the app yet!

right. so which one can give the musician everything they want to allow for having their singular but independent "home on the web"?

I think bandwagon is thinking ahead by also providing a fedi account. the next step imo would be all the sites together sharing some protocol that allows for a decentralized spotify. everybody using whatever they want, but with money flowing to artists. my dream.
