@barefootstache I think people with autism spectrum disorders are the sort of people who aren't accounted for in an objectivist framework. my basic problem is that there's this notion of "free people freely making choices with no coercion" that doesn't account for people who have deficiencies in their capacity for making choices about their lives or who need help to live with the least amount of suffering.

I try to keep an open mind about most ideas. As long as they aren't manifestly and obviously evil and destructive, I'll hear them and consider the merits. That said, I can't seriously engage with "objectivism" as promulgated by Ayn Rand and those who follow her. It's a philosophy so obviously detached from how people actually live that I can't see it working with actual humans.

carne upon this incidentally because I was thinking about kilts. apparently, I've done a cèilidh dance in school before without knowing what that is.

@lupyuen the ability to remove a tray from the fridge or countertop really impresses me. It may be constrained, but with a little more logic and a good voice interface, I can absolutely see this taking off and replacing some number of busboys and servers.

Will allowed "Linux" as a computer language on Sunday puzzle. smh

I've been reading "Working in Public" by Nadia Eghbal. It definitely struck a chord with me on the nature of dealing with contributors *on GitHub*; however, at least so far (I'm only about a tenth of the way in), I'm frustrated by Eghbal's conflation of the world of open source software development with the subset that happens on and around GitHub, and even with a particular group of prominent developers. No doubt, there is a lot of gravity around that platform, but I'm still convinced that there's important work that only incidentally interacts with GitHub that is missed by this focus.

( I'm going to continue to post in this thread about the book as in reading it, mostly to keep me going, since I often stop reading books part way through more from distraction than as a positive choice.)

@trinsec sure? I've never seen oat milk sold in my local grocery stores though I've never looked. probably Whole Foods has some. is oat milk more common where you are?

for me, I haven't found any place I couldn't sub in non-dairy milk part-for-part for dairy.

Made some rolls from this recipe, but adapted it because I don't do dairy. I used coconut oil in place of butter, almond milk instead of cow's milk, and just skipped the dry milk. I'm not sure I did the tangzhong quite right since I don't have a whisk and it wasn't as thick as I've seen in a video πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Was a real workout to form the dough, the gluten was so strong.

I think they turned out pretty well overall, though the taste is a little bland, so I think I'll try to add some kind of sour element and more salt next time. OTOH, I really like the look of them, which is why I decided to make them in the first place.

@izaya did you just happen to know about this event? this is the first I've heard of anything like it @HistoryMemes

From the book of "Lost in todays fediverse - the poems and words":

Where are you?
I can't find you at all?
I can see you mentioned somewhere but I can neither see your profile nor any of the posts you made, and searching for you I don't find you.
Where are you?

Many of the infographics out there are very symbolic, like a subway map; They're not to scale and everything is circles. Webb's orbit around L2 is often shown as similar or smaller than the moon's orbit around Earth. Here is an accurate illustration.
