@Pat I'm not even talking about propaganda really. it's more like what the news decides to show and not show. honestly though, I don't know how those decisions get made in news rooms

it's weird listening to stories from Ukrainians right now. I'm not sure if this is essentially sympathetic coverage to prepare citizens for war or if these are just genuinely sympathetic stories worth hearing. I also kind of hate that I can be this jaded.

It's weird zoom's automatic transcription can't consistently distinguish speakers at transitions - it should be able to run separately on each stream and get the attribution right basically 100% of the time... Though maybe there's a problem with the mics capturing output from speakers.

@torresjrjr certainly attention is a thing. I've been mulling over this a bit lately. I tend to think of the brain mainly as a control system for the body. basically a take off of embodied cognition. I haven't worked out what that means for the experience of vision--why it has these colors and shapes. it's not really useful but my answer to myself is something like, "what else would it be like to have these physical interactions with a thing like a brain?"🤷‍♂️

@trinsec maybe, but the question is for gold. say they don't award the gold until the investigation is complete, but award silver and bronze. if they find the rankings change, it means the 2nd and 3rd place get bumped up. Fourth place getting bumped to third would have to wait in either case, so they shouldn't care.
I'd rather that I get my silver now and gold later than not get a medal at all when I expected one.

there's something about seeing where the point at which you consciously register having seen something can follow your actually seeing. like when you're trying to think of a term and you're scanning pages in a book and you suddenly remember the thing you were trying to recall because it's on the page, but you couldn't necessarily say that you saw it on the page or where on the page.
