I didn't say "every situation", I said in "nearly" every context. That quote you gave could have been, "Shaniqua was called <the n-word> by a racist today which is uncalled for. We can't accept that language. I strongly condemn the use of that word."

The only time I think it could be used is to explain it to someone who has never heard the word before, if someone asks what "the n-word" is. And then it should be done in a non-public setting.

In any case, that's not even what he did. He used it as a tag for God's sake, and posted a video with people saying it over and over again without context. And he did it just to get a reaction to the use of the word.

And I'd prefer if you don't use that word again either, even in a quote.

This is the first science fiction film ever made. Here's a link to a copy of the film in color, hand painted by colorists Élisabeth and Berthe Thuillier.

Isn't this the same way they got slapped with an antitrust suit, when they forced people to use IE with the OS?

IE=Internet Explorer
OS=operating system

@Acer

here it is in plain text...

y=${x##*pid=}; echo ${y%%,*}

@Acer

When I tooted the first toot, it thought that the stars were to highlight text for italics, that's why they didn't print in the first toot. So, I made it an image instead.

This is "parameter expansion" in BASH.

man bash

section "Parameter Expansion"

@Acer

Assume the string is in parameter x then...

y=${x##*pid=}; echo ${y%%,*}

This is a way to do it without launching any additional processes.

(Note: There may be a way to nest these parameter expansions into one expression, but I don't know how to do that, if it's possible.)

@freemo @tripu @Sphinx @trinsec

This is a no-brainer. He knew exactly what he was doing when he posted that awful video.

It was completely uncalled for, since he could have made his point without doing that.

> not directed at anyone and not with harmful intend.

The use of the word is harmful in nearly every context, whether it's a quote or not, and regardless of who it is directed at. As to intent, no one can see into someone else's thoughts to know for sure, but given his previous toots about blackface, Mien Kampf and racial-bias in movies, I'm pretty sure he was looking for the reaction he got.

(BTW, I made my point about the topic without using that horrible word in this toot:

@modrobert

Ukraine probably doesn't have nukes, so MAD doesn't apply.

@tripu

I block anyone who uses racial epithets.

We won the cold war, so we can do whatever the f--- we want.

Biden needs to send Pukin a memo reminding him that we won the cold war.

@kreyren

The freedom convoy is protesting high fuel prices and big oil companies.

@lupyuen

I've been wondering when this would happen. This is a game-changer!

@Acer

Is this some kind of tricky ?

localhost always resolves to 127.0.0.1, and 127.0.0.0/8 is reserved, by standard, for loopback.

There's a way to change it, but I've never seen it other than that (in IPv4).

I just blocked a qoto user who used the n-word.

@samuraikid

Do we have an extradition treaty with Palm Beach, Florida?

@lupyuen

NTF's have got to be the most Darwinian investments I've ever seen.
