It's safe as long you keep out the oil industry saboteurs.

I just filled up my electric car... It cost me $1.67, that's $1.67 total cost of electicity to completely fill it up. :ablobblewobble:

Words like "eternal" and "infinity" (in the context of time) have no meaning outside the extent of time. It's like X/0, it's undefined.

@cweickhmann

Looks like a digital issue, but to rule out analog issues try inserting SW delays in the loop to really slow it down and varying the speed. Also, check the load on the ouput to make sure it's not pulling too much current (you can also vary the load to see if that effects the shape). It's running pretty slow already so it's probably not a capacitance/inductance issue and if there are no changes in the shape when you vary those things then that would rule that out.

On the digital side, that chip has a 2000-page data sheet and I'm not familiar with it, but a quick glance shows that it has two DACs that can be used together in differential mode, so make sure you set it up to use only one of them.

And make sure you're using it in 12-bit mode, not 16-bit mode, to eliminate that as a cause.

Also make sure your VREFA is a well conditioned DC without spikes or dips.

Also, it can use interrupts, so make sure it isn't periodically interrupting.

And of course as others have mentioned make sure the scope sample rate is quick enough (probably not the issue).

Retro SciFi of the Week…

Contact (1997)

Why can’t more science fiction be like this? There are no goofy monsters or extra-terrestrials that evolved to look like English-speaking humans. No space battles modeled after 20th century warfare. No space aliens that want to colonized Earth.

Contact is a realistic portrayal of what a first contact might look like. It’s very well written and produced, and the acting is world class. The film took a hit from some reviewers when it debuted because of who the filmmakers were (the writer, Carl Sagan was an atheist (or agnostic) and the lead actor, Jodie Foster is lesbian), so keep that in mind if you look up ratings/reviews of the film.

One of the questions asked by this film is whether an extra-terrestrial species could provide us with information that would cause us to destroy ourselves. You don’t want miss this one.

Let me get this straight…

Texas says life begins at conception, so, now the legal drinking age in Texas is 20 years, 3 months?

If you’re not a cynical misanthrope by now, you’re not paying attention.

I think consciousness works like a small cursor or a page of video memory that can only see a tiny amount of what's going on in your brain at any given moment. Most of what happens is not seen by our conscious minds.

@lucifargundam

I think leaving the planet is a form of commplete isolation...

But it would be effective (as long as you tested everyone on the ship before you left)

(Note: You'd need to test them for stupidity as well as COVID-19, for complete effectiveness against the pandemic.)

The correct answer to the poll…

The most effective way to prevent the infection and spread of COVID-19 is by properly wearing a NIOSH-approved respirator when you are near other people or breathe air that may possibly be contaminated.

- N95 respirator > 95% efficient at stopping virus particles
- P100 respirator > 99.97% efficient at stopping virus particles
- FDA-approved vaccines ~ 50% two weeks after injection; 40% or less after 4 months, at preventing infection
- best cloth masks or surgical masks ~50-60% efficient at stopping virus particles
- typical cloth mask < 30% efficient
- hand-washing - not effective

N95 and P100 are NIOSH ratings for respirators

Which is the most effective way to prevent the infection and spread of COVID-19?
(besides complete isolation, of course)

Turns out I was wearing them!

@trinsec

That sucks. Was that your new roofing?

@trinsec @PawelK

That translation didn't make any sense to me, either.

It’s true that B12 is an issue for vegetarians, especially vegans. Only bacteria and archaea can make cobalamin (B12). Certain bacteria that live in the digestive tracts of most animals, including humans, produce B12. However, in humans that happens in the colon, past the point where absorption can occur, so humans need to get it from their diet.

B12 is a micro-nutrient and we only need a very small amount – a few ug/day on average. It is stored in the liver and muscle tissue and humans can store it for years without needing to get it in the diet, but eventually you need to have some in your diet. (Or get an occasional B12 shot)

Because it is not in the diet of most vegans, they should take a non-animal source of B12 supplement. Also, older people and those who take certain drugs may lack “intrinsic factor” and not be able to absorb enough, so those people may need to get B12 shots or supplement with high doses of B12.

There are also sub-lingual supplements that are designed to be absorbed directly into the blood through tissues under the tongue, but I don’t know if there are any studies that confirm whether that actually happens or not with those supplements.

@PawelK

That was not the finding of that study, and that quote is not in that study. (And it's not true.)
