meta mastodon moderation / blocking
Wow - this is awesome. Now, I'm old enough to have been a moderator on Fidonet. And on IRC. Both the regular IRC and the one that ran as a backend to a huge social network (Sweden only) that was a bit like Facebook but long before Facebook. And some other things.
But the discussions on #fediblock regarding defederation are definitely bringing up a completely new aspect to network moderation I haven't really seen in this light before.

It is proven! I am romaq on Keybase: https://keybase.io/romaq/sigchain#f909df1fcbdf15879ef8eea51bdf143efe00811e327d6e5fde75e463f140ef440f
Disturbed by reports of Black Mastodon users—Black women in particular—having negative experiences on this app, including being randomly banned for discussions of racism. Some of these users will not come back. All will share their experiences. The answer is not to condescendingly lecture them on “how the fediverse works,” as if their experiences are inevitable, nor to swear to do better next time. (There may not be one.) It’s to do better now lest the reputation of this app be cemented.
For those who care attached are the screenshots of the nazi who was banned from QOTO some time back and started a hate campaign by pretending to be LGBTQ ally "calling us out" but just made up lies... he did this over the course of many months and ultimately is the source of the problems that snowballed and led to all this to begin with.
I will do a write up on this soon.
Greetings! I am Stuart Duncan or probably better known online as AutismFather.
I created Autcraft, the #Minecraft server for #autistic children and their families in 2013 when I noticed many parents reaching out to other parents in hopes that their autistic children could play together because they were being attacked on public servers so much by bullies and trolls.
Since then, the server has added over 16,000 name to the list of approved players and been featured in many research papers, news articles, a TED Talk, and even Mojang's own "Meet a Minecrafter."
I started out with a diploma in Radio Broadcasting, became a writer about autism after my son and I were diagnosed, and then started my Minecraft server, where I finally found where I truly belonged and have been ever since.
I am most interested in helping people, but beyond that, #science, #videogames, #photography, and in plain ole, simple, wholesome, kind videos and news. I try to look for the "good news" more than the bad.

@Gargron What about addressing the situation with the silent delisting of qoto.org without warning, discussion, or reason, despite the organization meeting the charter agreement?
So it looks like the delisting might mean we arent even showing up on the official mastodon app for apple now.
Shame on you @Gargron you are a disgrace!
Got laid off today! Whoo!
If anyone knows of a place looking for a remote front-end web dev (#react #reactjs #javascript #html #css), Unity dev (#unity #unity3D #csharp #gamedev #indiedev #dotnet), Game designer (#gamedesign #leveldesign #gameplay #gameplaydesign), Stream producer (#obs #obsstudio #twitch #streaming #ttrpg #ttrpghive), or Generalist programmer, hit me up!
Shoot some recommendations my way, DM, email, etc
Also if you could boost this, that would be very appreciated!
Thanks 🙃
The instigating factor is that someone linked me a website that listed instances that blocked us. I went through tthe list by hand, read about pages, and any instance that posted an email and welcomed others to contact them to discuss administrative concerns I did. I sent an email that amounted to "Hey saw we were blocked, are there any problems I can address"... It turns out without my knowledge the website happened to have its code written by someone from kiwifarms. In his reply he said this was "bad optics". That is the only thing that "changed"
He also citted the fact that we federate with all servers, which as you know is something we do specifically for the protection of the lives of our LGBTQ members as they use it to monitor bad actors for doxxing and disseminate that throughout their communities.
But this second point is nonsense because it has been the case since our founding.
With his permission I'd be happy to send you the actual text of the email but since he is unresponsive to any attempts at having a conversation I cant actually get his permission to do so.
QOTTO has been ttaken off the malware list we were mistakenly added to... yay!

@Gargron I think I might do a write up explaining the abuse from jonmastodon, something hard hitting, attach it to a similar tweet, then dump $10K into it and let it explode at this point.
My #teen son, who is really into #Minecraft right now, is interested in joining Mastodon. Any suggestions for instances for him?
I found craftodon.social by looking where people posting #Minecraft were coming from so that looks promising. Just thought I'd also ask if others had suggestions for instances for #teens. Thanks! #AskFedi
@Romaq I've read all the NYT articles about this horror. My daughter in Denver was extremely upset. She is involved with the LGBTQ community in Denver, and there is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between Springs and Denver. It's so fortunate that someone was there who could react and attack the shooter. I understand from the articles that he sort of went berserker and really pounded this guy. Totally understandable. Glad I wasn't there.
@Romaq I do find joy on Twitter but then I don’t because of so many angry people who get upset over the littleist of things. So far I’ve encountered more friendly people on Mastadon then any other social network I’ve been on! I might in time fine my joy here. However, still thinking about going back to crazy bird place because of friends that don’t use Mastodon. I’m going think on it for awhile… Until then, I will remain here, and on another site called MeWe.
Open Heart Surgery, emotional impact, COVID-19 misinformation, anti-vax
I was reminded by an anti-vax Twitter post promoting a conspiracy film. "People hospitalized with covid in the US are murdered using the deadly drug Remdesivir and ventilators."
I would have to get actual data on Remdesivir, but a person I knew who had Covid, recovered under the drug, then Covid came back seemingly worse... I'd have questions, but I'd get answers from people I can *sue* if they screw it up. But I'm sure as hell not going to take advice from someone tweeting crap on the toilet.
That said, I *do* know something about ventilators. In 2008, @mikmaqpeek was having "odd symptoms that could be heart related." We went to ER, no enzymes showing heart damage. They kept her overnight, then had her do a treadmill test to see how the heart responded. It did not respond well.
She half-fell, was half-pulled off the machine. They began a panic consult while I was in the waiting room not suspecting anything was wrong. A nurse bursts into the room, "You need to come with me *RIGHT NOW*!"
Moments later, it was all a blur. The doctors consulted with us both while I maintained calm for the terror my wife was in. They begged pardon for invading her privacy, but they needed to shave her groin for an angiogram during the consult while getting permission to *do* the angiogram. They were in a hurry to pinpoint a block they knew had to be there and determine how likely it was to kill her within the next few minutes.
They did pinpoint the block, they determined the extent of it and if a stent would work. In that particular position, it would not. Days later under careful watch, she had the surgery. She was intubated to force her lungs to breathe through the trauma just done to her rib-cage to get access to her heart and the block for a "CABG" bypass.
After the surgery, I was there to see her as she came out of the drugs so she would have people she knew. When I first saw her, that wasn't my wife. It was an animal, terrified, but there was no thinking person, not the woman I loved, and it was hell. But she was alive, and she was in good care I trusted.
That's what I know of intubation... her wrists restrained to keep her from yanking the tube out... a button to press to help her with pain relief so they could gauge her status. While she was coming out of the drugs, I went to phone family with the situation. Her son & daughter were already there to be with her while I was away.
"Hospitals ... murdering people through the ventilator."
Go to hell. Go directly to hell. Yes, I'm aware of doctors and nurses, administrators acting like people do, as they are people.
But when I last visited ER because my wife was sick, they specifically had to ask if either of us had weapons, something they didn't have to do before. We get the reports of medical professionals being murdered for doing their job by these IDIOTS. I have very raw anger at the misinformation and contempt these morons have for the medical profession charged with keeping them alive.
I do not wish them violence or harm. But I do stand against them. There is data, there is cause for concern, and *ANY* procedure has risk, even life-saving ones. But... the lies have to go along with the hate and fearmongering. Let the data show what it shows, let honesty and integrity win, let people make informed decisions based on proven risk data and personal assessment.
