The quote you just provided and link agreed with everything I said, and yes I read the case.

I didn't see anything come up in notifications or any of the feeds. I didn't notice anything on my profile page or in direct messages.

I scanned the SW documentation at docs.joinmastodon.org and didn't see the feature mentioned there.

I guess I could just use it and use coded language so in case anybody sees it, it won't embarrass anyone.

I don't remember ever seeing that note feature. It doesn't show up when you open a profile in a new tab. I almost always open profile pages in a new tab because I like the way it formats that way.

When you type text into that note feature is that something that is visible to everyone publicly or is it visible to the person whose profile you post it to? Or is it only visible to me?

re complexity... Yeah, that's always a problem in SW development, feature bloat. Sometimes, especially with SW that's been around a while and updated a lot, you can change it in a way that actually makes it easier to use while adding new features, but that usually takes quite a bit of creativity and UI experience.

Of course Fedi has the inherent complexity of the structure itself.

"It's the little things"

As I added in some notes about a couple of our Minecraft server's newest players into the "important need to know" channel in our Staff Discord this morning, it occurred to me that you probably don't know that we do things like this behind the scenes.

For example, when a player is young, or not a strong reader, or maybe English isn't their first language, we'll make a note here so that all of the staff are aware to use shorter sentences and easier to read/understand explanations for things... maybe take them into a channel where chat isn't so busy.

Sometimes we have players who are feeling especially alone or ignored in life and we'll make a note here for the staff to take extra special time and care to make sure they get a response in chat or have giving them a special greeting when they sign on, such as "It's really great to see you!"

This is a very busy channel for us, one that nobody on our staff ignores. This way we can all know about the little things with each player to be aware of, to be careful of, and to be thoughtful about... because each player is unique and has something different about them that we should keep in mind.

It says it right in the title of the channel we use, it's "important" to know, because the little things to us are very big things to them.

@Romaq my only criticism is that he is too nice, welcoming, and accomodating. F&*^+ng boy scout. @freemo

So if the whole argument is that being able to see radicalized propaganda will make people radicalized, and thus is wrong to allow people to see it... does that work both ways.. If you are "radicalized" towards good and taking doing and treating people good to an extreme, then shouldnt the bad radicalized people turn into good radicalized people by that same exposure to good?

The logic doesnt really add up for me, but regardless this is not the reason why we have open federation as many of you know, but it does show a flaw in their logic.

I love it when someone finds out I’m an #atheist and cracks some lame joke about how you never have to ask, atheists & vegans will always tell you they’re atheist or #vegan.

But last I checked, atheists & vegans don’t go around knocking on doors, wearing atheist & vegan symbols on a necklace or erecting 200 ft highway-side reminders that we exist. We certainly don’t vote or lobby for policies that would force you to live by our rules. No, lovelies, that’s Christianity.

Call me old-fashioned but when it comes to COVID-19, I'd still prefer not to f*ck around and find out.

Some folks insist that wearing a mask in crowds and inside public spaces is an overreaction— this despite a preponderance of evidence showing microvascular damage from even mild COVID infections.

I'll keep wearing my mask, thank you very much.

I'd be happy to look into a way to do this, it sounds important and it really hit home for me. I forget to add descriptions a lot and I know I will try not to forget int he future.

If anyone was wondering if #Elmo’s target audience got the message. “14/88” is a popular extension of “88” which adds the “14 words” about saving “white children” created by Nazi terrorist David Lane.

Numerous neo-Nazi trolls are adding the number to his comment to make sure he knows that they heard him clearly.

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.

@Romaq

I've seen posts from people using saying that inline hashtags don't really bother them. They're already used to filtering out the extra stuff the screen readers say that this is practically a non-issue - that's what one screenreader users whose post got boosted to my timeline said anyway.

Still, I find overuse of them annoying even as a sighted reader, and try to have only one or two inline and the rest at the end of the post, just as a matter of preference.
