I'm no virologist but in my mind I dont understand how quarantining a city will address the problem with the outbreak.

The whole outbreak started with one person of course. with it infecting a whole city even if the outbreak is entirely limited to that city how will quarantining help long term. Eventually they need to remove the quarantine and vaccines are years away. When they eventually do if even one person has the disease still then it will just start al. over again.

Obviously it makes sense to qtine individuals who traveled from an effected area for a set number of days to see if they are carrying the disease before releasing them. That sort of quarantine makes sense. But a whole city, not sure how that will help.

Did you know has one of the highest user retention rate of any server in the fediverse?

We do not and have never deleted inactive accounts. Despite this ~25% of our registered users are still active after over 2 years of operation. Compare this to most other servers and we see typically a retention of ~10% or less.

To me this is the most important statistic to measure the health and success of a server, ultimately it tells me the people who come to QOTO ultimately enjoy it here and want to stay!

One of the coolest #library displays I've seen: with my son at the #Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ). I walked right past but at my son's eye-level, he spotted it. Just in the stacks, a little projector hides behind some cut-out books and projects ghosts onto this display, which appear to glow.

Another one of Absinthe's programming challenges. These are always a lot of fun, i suggest some of you get in on them.

Okay folks, this should be simple, but maybe not.

The goal is to write a function that takes a positive integer and returns a list of its prime factors. So if you did 12 you should get the list [2, 2, 3]

As neither 1 nor zero are prime, as a result should return an empty list.

This is taken from a , so if you have not done this one I encourage you to do so. If you are not into then solve it however you like.

@freemo Here's the idea. A group of people gets together (well virtually)
1. Brainstorm a project
2. Design the project
3. Code the project
4. Release it to the wild
5. Start over

There is a little more to it, but that is the basic flow. Add whatever other fluff is involved in a club. :)

Is anyone interested in, or has anyone been a part of a programming or coding club?

Interesting fact of the day:

Two baseballs placed one meter apart and stationary relative to each other in space where there is no friction will only take 3 days for the gravity between them to cause them to attract and collide with each other.

@davidpgil

> some are toxic

There are no toxic vaccines.

> the effect varies from person to person

This is true for literally anything from alcohol, sun exposure and aspirine.

> since he got a pneumonia vaccine

I read pneumonia vaccine is gives 90% immunity after 4 doses. If he got only one, it's most likely like he was never vaccinated. And single dose of vaccine cannot cause "violent pneumonia".

My favorite past time: commenting on group photos with "Its so nice to see everyone be so accepting, they probably have trouble making friends and get judged all the time for how they look, really sweet of you!" ... then sitting back with the popcorn and watch them try to figure out which one of them I am referring to :)

Its 65 F (18 C) in antarctica at the moment. The hottest temperature every recorded in antarctica. You can literally sit outside with a short sleeve shirt on at the south pole and not be cold right now...

Why is velocity relative but acceleration is not.. why is so hard in physics.. so many things are relative and some are absolute, its easy to figure out which is which.. but WHY. I've been far down the rabbit hole and it never ends..

How should I handle my anal retentiveness?

as suggested by @miguel31416

Is it anal retentive to have a collection of embalmed anuses from various species? I mean technically you're retaining anuses so if that isnt anal retentive what is?

@Gargron qucik question. Has anything changed on joinmastodon in the last week? We saw a rather sudden drop in traffic from the site for some reason. It is significant and i cant figure out why.

Everyone please welcome my good friend @lordalveric to . He is a programmer and Machine Learning enthusiast, Lets show him how awesome this community can be!

How would you like me to handle my political posts?
