Exploiting null-dereferences in the #Linux kernel

@freemo Any phrase used as a tribal identity marker tends to attract stupidity because the point is allegiance not analysis; any topic of considerable depth discussed in 280 or less character chunks tends towards stupid because there isn't enough space to advance sufficiently nuanced ideas; and in this case the starting point is counterfactual, which poses serious challenges for non-idiotic support.
So, yeah, if it was anything other than a maelstrom of stupidity, we ought to be mightily surprised.
(I do note with displeasure that a lot of people more on the sane side of things tend to overestimate the degree to which one can conclude things like "vaccines are totally safe" from observations like "the anti-vax side is comprised of idiots". That's not how it works! Is there a talkorigins.org equivalent for Covid vaccines yet?)
The problem I have with this dude is the bad-faith way he argues which resembles a troll more than a respectful debate. Its the lack of productivity and the inability to even attempt being productive combined with the absurdity that is troubling IMO.
The issue is language barrier, he's Romanian so neither of you are going to properly communicate your points. However even if you could
Political discussions, particularly regarding polarizing topics, go against the spirit of this instance, however they are not strictly banned. The Moderation team reserves the right to perform actions should it be determined that a thread is deemed unproductive or has devolved into a hellthread
I am determining this thread to be unproductive and it would have devolved into a hellthread.
I think if he acts this way with any other server admin it would stand a good chance of getting your server suspended.
Hence, I have an uncomfortable position to maintain of not banning opinions that are shared on user profiles provided they remain on user profiles. While not allowing discourse not regarding technology to occur.
It's an unfortunate compromise because nobody really gets what they want. However the server gets to protect itself which is probably more important.
A waterbear on some english fair... or is it a tardigrade on some toast I made? or perhaps a tardigrade on marmilade?
Reminds me of this #demotivator poster: **IDIOCY**

@hasmis @freemo There's an excellent (1976) essay by a guy named Carlo Cipolla on the general topic of stupidity. You may already have seen it. If not, it's worth checking out.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_M._Cipolla
See in particular, his 1st law: "Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation."
There's also a nice two-factor classification scheme in there (see the figure in the wikipedia article).
@freemo There's nobody left for them, but the crazies. :)
This is deeply wrong, but it's an interesting *kind* of wrong.
Our perception of the past telescopes: there's the recent past, what we remember; the middle past, what our parents and grandparents remember; the long past, out of living memory but still preserved in familiar stories; and everything else. As I've said before, a lot of Americans' idea of *human* #history seems to go roughly as follows:
1. #Cavemen.
2. #Pyramids.
3. #Jesus.
4. Robin Hood and King Arthur.
5. #Columbus and #pirates.
6. #Pilgrims and George Washington.
7. #Cowboys.
8. World War Two. (One must have happened somewhere?)
9. #Hippies and #Vietnam.
10. The real world begins with the momentous event of my birth.
Nor is this uniquely an American problem—some places have better educational systems than others, but I think people everywhere hold similar mythologized versions of world events leading uniquely and inevitably to their own central place in the world.
So here's an extreme version of the same phenomenon applied to natural history. Most reasonably educated people have some idea that not all prehistoric animals lived at the same time (although poor #Dimetrodon is forever going to be mixed in with #dinosaurs) but they do tend to lump enormous spans of time together: #mammoths and #sabertooths, before that all dinosaurs all at once, and before that ... I dunno ... jellyfish or something.
#Creationists, of course, turn it up to 11.

@freemo # 4 Ways to Stop #Procrastinating
#Procrastination is a common problem that can make it difficult to reach our goals and accomplish tasks. Fortunately, there are steps that we can take to make it easier to stay on track. Here are four ways to help you stop procrastinating.
First, set yourself up for success by breaking up large tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. This will help you to stay focused and motivated, and make it easier to track your progress. It also helps to set realistic goals and reward yourself for meeting them.
Second, create a schedule and stick to it. Scheduling out your day and blocking off specific times for tasks can help to keep you on track and prevent procrastination. It is also important to make sure that you are taking regular breaks to avoid burnout.
Third, remove distractions. This can include anything from social media notifications to phone calls. By reducing the number of distractions, you'll be able to stay focused on the task at hand and avoid the temptation to procrastinate.
Finally, stay motivated. Procrastination can be a hard habit to break, so it is important to stay positive and remind yourself of why you are doing the task. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed, take a step back and remember why you are doing the task in the first place.
By following these steps, you can help to reduce procrastination and stay on track towards achieving your goals. With a little bit of effort and dedication, you can make it easier to stay focused and stay motivated.
@rudyschwartz@dobbs.town @freemo
I live in Portland, OR. Whenever I talk to my mum in New England she asks me about the terrible riots and murder-death-kill happening all around me. I tell her it's one side of one block in downtown, one night a week, when both the Patriot Prayer MAGAs and the news cameras show up at the same time, and hasn't happened at all for like a couple of years. Finally she gets frustrated with me and says "you're the only person I know who says that." I reply, "I'm the only person you know who lives here."
@rudyschwartz@dobbs.town @freemo my city once totally asploded because of lack of nuance. You need 50mg nuance/day really if you don't want your city to asplode and catch fire and be all librul
@a_cup_of_sugar I am not the head of the company (CEO) I am the head of all STEM operations at the company (CIO, specifically Clinical, Data Science, and Analytical Chemistry teams). As I said if you arent capable of searching the studies we published and seeing my name I have no objection to getting it to you when I am at my computer and not my phone. Just really bizarre how assumptive you are considering my title as the head of STEM at a company exclusive to COVID research.
Try talking to people and having productive conversations rather than jumping in with the toxicity next time, you might actually get somewhere.
For the record me and other people working on COVID are pretty damn sick of laypeople coming in with their anti-science crap and starting drama every time someone tries to have a candid conversation (you know, actual science).... "Oh my god you said masks wont solve all our problems and wont eliminate covid, clearly your a fraud!"... you are part of the problem, despite the fact that I'm sure you think your helping.
