@freemo That's a good question.

Cumulative wealth divided by the population and compared to median wealth? GDP? Growth of businesses?

I don't think disposable income should be the best indicator of a good economy, but rather the economy's ability to perform, grow and expand.

Well I bit the bullet and now officially blocked poa.st (account level not server). First ever domain I had to block.

I dont have any domains locally blocked, and QOTO doesnt really block domains for all its users, with a few small exceptions...

But man I am really temped to block poa.st. It seems to be the sludge from the bottom of the gene pool over there. I cant honestly remember ever having a productive conversation with anyone from that server.

Alas as a moderator who needs to keep an eye on his community I am reluctant to start blocking people or domains locally.

I will get a great amount of pleasure if I see the mastodon project sue trump, make a bunch of money, get him to shut down his server, and then use that money to improve the network/project.

I have to say, it's pretty great how: A) The Fediverse is quick to block Trump's fork and instance of Mastodon that violates the AGPL3 licensing B)...

@freemo My other project is a Potentiometer board

I made this as pushing potentiometers in to breadboards can make the holes too big, however with the headers I can attach leads from a multi meter (you can get some that can clip on to headers) which is handy, this one has 1k 10k and soon 5k,

@freemo THis is a small project to build a modiule to help determine Plankcks Constant.

I got the instructions from cleapss.org.uk/ who produce resources for schools. The idea is that you power this, up and can light up either the RED Yellow, Orange (Once soldered on) Green and Blue LEDs, the potentiometer (1k) allows brightness to be adjusted, measure voltage across the lED, then from all that + the wavelength of the light (from daa sheet) you can calculate or Plankcs Constant.

I cant' share the instructions as they are copyright, i downloaded this while on work experience at a school as I also downloaded other resources in relation to a short course I did during the work experience.

Orange Light Emitting Diodes have now arrived. I can now complete my module that helps to determine Planck's Constant. However before i fire up my soldering iron for this, I am waiting for some 5k potentiometers which I need to complete my little potentiometer board. So may as well solder everything up at the same time.

What is your favorite ?

I always found these more of an eye sore than an actual tower.

Based on another thread discussion about racial bias in film (qoto.org/@tripu/10712881255342), here's a peudo-random list of ten films to critique regarding how they treat black actors/characters.

Lion (2016)
Logan (2017)
Looper (2012)
Mad Max:Fury Road (2015)
Manchester by the Sea (2016)
Midnight in Paris (2011)
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Moneyball (2011)
Moonlight (2016)
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

Of those on the list that I hadn't seen yet, only Lion and Moneyball are available for free (that I could find). Lion is about a guy's journey back to his family in India. In a quick scan of the film, I didn't see any black people, mostly Indian actors, Nicole Kidman and another white guy.

**** Spoilers *****
I watched Moneyball and it's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It's extremely biased against black people. It's a film about baseball. In real life there are a lot of black people in baseball, but in this film the screen is nearly always filled with white faces. There are only a few bit parts by black actors in this dialogue-heavy film and one other black character (small part), a player who got about a dozen lines -- mostly negative and largely in opposition to the protagonist.

The first black actor with lines didn't come until more than a half-hour into the film. In the scene, he was the only black person in a room with about a dozen other white guys. He has a couple of lines and was questioning/opposing the protagonist. The next black bit part had 2-3 lines and again contradicted the protagonist. Later, when the black character/player is being interviewed by a reporter, she interrupts him as he begins to speak. The reporter says, "Excuse me. Could you please get out of my shot.", (speaking to a random extra who was placed into the scene specifically for the reporter to utter that negative line). And there were a couple more bit parts, again same negative tone.

When the team wins its triumphant record-breaking game, it was a white guy who hit the home run, but when the team suffers its crushing loss, it was a black guy who hit the pop fly for the game-losing out.

This is what I talking about -- the racial bias in film. These films are not outliers, they're typical. I'm sure we'd see the same sort of thing in other films in that random list.

Here's a frame from "Moneyball", showing a black man blurred out while the white guy is in focus:

Interesting fact of the day. In ancient egyptian culture the saying "Eaten the heart" was a reference to grieving without justification, which was one of the mortal sins that would keep you out of their version of heaven.

It was one of the negative confessions recited by the dead during the weighing of the heart against the feather of Maat (sometimes called the feather of truth).

@freemo Yeah, different instruments have different learning curves. If instruments were editors strings would be the Vi family.

Whether you think trans peopel are weird, unnatural, mentally unhealthy, or whatever else you tell yourself to justify being hateful I have to wonder, why would any of that, if it were true, even be a reason to not care about someone, or at least to want to see them happy.

To be honest most hate is hard to understand in general, but this just seems particularly absurd. In the end when I see it I cant help but assume its just a reflection of the persons on internal mental issues, whatever they might be, and less about the groups they target.

I'm not really much of a musician in any sense but I just want to point out that people dont realize how even to reach a basic level in most instruments is a monumental task, particularly string instruments. It can take days or weeks just to make a single half decent note out of the thing. The number of man hours it takes of investment to actually play enjoyable music on any level is astounding. Musicians deserve a lot of respect no matter where they are in their journey, just saying.
