has 2nd meaning as "Shilling" !

Shilling also means "Act as a shill":
A Shill = A decoy who acts as an enthusiastic customer in order to stimulate the participation of others

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shilling

is not just a word for advocates

might not that much worse than real coins minted and paper/plastic notes minted constantly while de-value / inflate it...

I guess a lot of people didn't see the writing on the wall until very recently.

@teqnkka @GrapheneOS @growfediverse It would be awesome if GrapheneOS would be compatible with a Fairphone model.

Buying a Google device to #degoogle myself would feel like missing the point entirely. And I love Fairphone's hardware concept.

@Blenster @wendynather God yes. “Smart” is pretty thick on the ground. “Kind” and “compassionate” are unpleasantly rare.

Following a familiar playbook, they copied my Web3 is Going Great post to a free BlogSpot website, then backdated it by one day.

The goal was to then abuse the notice and takedown process to claim that I had stolen their work, force my webhost to remove the post, and then hope that I was either intimidated by the legalese or too strapped for time to fight it out with my hosting provider.

Unfortunately for them, “legal department” is only one of the many hats I wear as an independent writer and publisher, and “hosting provider” is another. I informed them that no such infringement had occurred, and noted that there can be penalties for fraudulent copyright claims should they try to continue pursuing this tactic. "

Human condition is not as logical or clear... or it is but in a very illogical / un-clever way...

@jwcph

I honestly think a lot of that is true AND people want that. More than ever I'm sure more and more people want things like this - where it doesn't make sense but they like it / want it (and this has been the problem too - not just companies making crap but people actively buying it!)

#ALTTEXT for #business picture relating to being out of date / not current (superannuation)...

A graphic showing a man, wearing a , slumped at his with a spider’s web surrounding him, depicting how easy it is to get caught up in and scams online.

(*) superannuation = being out of date and not current (in this context (I think... as it has more than 1 meaning)

'customers' and 'consumers'...

@greenpete Interesting point.

Was thinking at the same time that 'as usual' things do happen over time or they were always about profit just on a smaller scale before - now just a monster version with different levels of it in the modern day (cut-throat) business (that was always there, state being the constant root usually).

So it was always "business" / / extended of ... though not everyone as a business had access or dreams of it that way... but over time everyone learned all the other tricks and used even more tools that kind of messed up their and consumers (we were always both even in uneven levels) with how everything it because too or or / etc...

I think major steps to what you said and what I say here were something like:

2000s = Broadband mass-installed by state / companies. Exploration and habits change.

2008 = Major Banks crash / bail-outs + effects after happen...

20?? = Less variation of jobs / cuts in funding by state for "non-essentials" (like a "poor artists" type thing where main tree of funding is constantly cut / isn't there any more making people more dependent or somehow funneling them)

2010 = Social media really kicking in / dominating even resistant / distant countries

2020 COVID as a kind of forced / paying themselves to cause more risk / experiment [=more ] - and masks / vaccines as basic

2020+ Various wars (economic also) as part of pulling people's taxes in and overall focus as country to generally go to war (price war, arms, anything).

Just a quick reply (saw you didn't have any - or did you get some response?)

It's interesting but overall always we were customers and consumers - just we locked in a lot more which also ties into people...

@newsmast to picture, says:

An image of a smashed phone is the background to a quote from Amnesty International's Breaking Up With Big Tech report, which reads:

"Big Tech’s dominance can lead to devastating consequences for marginalized communities.

Platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have become primary gateways to news and public discourse. Their algorithmic systems – optimized for engagement and profit – have been shown to amplify harmful content which elicits a stronger reaction from users and keeps us online longer, allowing these companies to collect more data on us and serve us more adverts.In an increasingly polarized context, this can contribute to the rapid spread of discriminatory speech and even incitement to violence – which has had devastating consequences in several crisis and conflict-affected areas."
