I wanted to hop into a #JitsiMeet room now, but the jit.si UI is now pushing #jitsi users to create accounts (or "Wait for a moderator", which probably is the same as waiting for Godot), and this is their explanation for it: https://jitsi.org/blog/authentication-on-meet-jit-si/
I can imagine the "drug cartel uses this for human trafficking or worse" scenario they are implicitly depicting, but part of me thinks the move is rather an "end of zero-interest phenomenon" #enshittification measure 🤔️

Are you using #Jitsi meet? I proposed a feature you might know from your screen presentation tool or your projector remote: blanking or freezing the screen content so that you might do something in the background without showing what you do.
Very handy for demos, password interaction, fixing things, looking up something, ...
Unfortunately, #JitsiMeet is deleting feature requests like that after two months if they don't get implemented meanwhile.

went to my middle schooler's choir recital tonight.
showed up in full goth parent mode, i was like a 00s industrial/EBM kid got a corporate job. my makeup's finally hitting right. i looked amazing
my partner and i were probably the only queer people there. we got stared at like zoo animals and no one sat in our row. like, the entire row. one family group actively left once they saw me. very subtle.
whatever. my kid was thrilled we showed up, so everyone else can...
the best part? the finale was YMCA. yeah.
a 5th grade choir singing a gay anthem about where to find anonymous hookups, while the same parents who'd clutch pearls at two women holding hands were out there clapping and doing the dance like it's sunday service. the same people who'd call us groomers for existing...
the hypocrisy rolled in, did jazz hands, and called it traditional midwestern family values.
goddamn it was hilarious in that, i-laughed-so-i-wouldn't-start-screaming, kind of way.
...i can't wait to move.
