@MrsDi @edutooters The greatest improvement in life will be to replace telephone robocalls into AI scam artists. :)

I'm dreaming of a solid ice Christmas.

"City of Toronto
Significant winter storm expected late this week into the holiday weekend.

Precipitation may begin as rain or snow late Thursday before possibly transitioning to rain in many areas early Friday. Temperatures are expected to plummet on Friday leading to a potential flash freeze for locations that receive rainfall. Rapidly falling temperatures will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds along with snow that may be heavy at times. Blizzard conditions are possible late Friday into the weekend for areas downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

A multi-day lake effect snow event is expected into the weekend in the wake of the system for locations east of the Great Lakes."

The toboggan hills will be solid ice. I remember those days of my youth. I think I chipped a tooth.

A tale of two graphics. First is the latest from The Guardian, second is my choice of 'all months' from NOAA. Mine makes it look like the temperature is going down. Perhaps it is distorted. Anyway, we have a hypothesis --

" But he added: “For next year our climate model is indicating an end to the three consecutive years with La Nina state, with a return to relative warmer conditions in parts of the tropical Pacific.

“This shift is likely to lead to global temperature in 2023 being warmer than 2022.”

@rogermcnamee A 'mistake' implies a consequence, like buying bitcoin. The media does not make mistakes, they redefine the issue.

@LouisIngenthron I know, shopping online for stocking stuffers the other week -- What a headache! At least the car didn't get dinged.

@pieist I'm an old Unix guy and have been on every 'chat' platform since compuserve and usenet. They all start with adventurous and witty people, then the masses come in. Google's G+ had circles and verified people but was dead. The only fun is with anonymous posts, but that soon dies because people want to use it to make money, or gain power (same thing). I'm enjoying this for a while, but we are starting to get the ads, and then people will stir up phoney outrage for power. I see it devolving to 'everybody has an instance' on AWS. So much fun.

@slider7420 Gotta watch a new one tonight, to learn another lesson, or maybe the same lesson, again and agan.

@Romaq @LouisIngenthron @freemo I would add that this mental defect is confined to those of northern European descent. My hypothesis is that its not just 'guns, germs, and steel', but you have to add 'mental instability', for reasons of past Western dominance.

@Romaq @LouisIngenthron @freemo I have had yo-yo serotonin since 40 years old. That's when it comes in. The reason evolution hasn't killed it, is because of the late onset. Before that, the genetic defect makes you the world's best programmer, poet, artist etc. All those guys used to blow their heads off in the old days. Now, there is no reluctance to take others with you. This just happened near us.

Yeah -- Total Success. This is my textTicTok hack for fixing the stinkin' ignitor on the bbq. Wrap a tiny bit of sandpaper on the eraser end of a pencil. Rub it on the big spring end, and then twirly twirly on the hidden spring inside. Those springs get so gunked up. This satisfaction will keep up my brain serotonin for a whole day!

@Romaq @LouisIngenthron @freemo I been through hereditary male depression. First, don't get upset with things you can't change. That is insufficient, but a good thing. Second, drop all alcohol for a while (I love a good whiskey). Then go to your doctor for a trial of anti-depressant. That's the only thing that works. Your brain actually has shrunken happy nodes (whatever) seen on scans. Brain serotonin is a vital nutrient. However, no 'red blooded' male ever goes to the doctor. Sad, and then they shoot.

@Paulos_the_fog Oh! Translate English to German with Google, and back again. So much fun!

ps. these are 'earthquakes of the sky' made more violent by the cold. We are back to the 70's, so a good physics hypothesis is that we'll see more of these, and the ozone holes will get larger, and my pipes will freeze. :)

@Paulos_the_fog Ha, then you won't be writing the next article on how a phone is as good as a $10K arrangement. :) It's all friendly here, no need to shout.

@askquantum I think it was more the concept of anonymous input. It allowed Poots to attack the West.

@tongutay I love all the snow pictures, but a general location would be nice. Thank you.

@homomorfismo@mastodon.social The physics of how heat rises from the surface of the Earth depends on the Rayleigh number. A low number means that the air is 'thick' and the heat flow is all infra-red radiation, like Venus. Then we have greenhouse gases which interfere with the radiation. If the R number is large, then the heat flow is all convection. In the 70's there were large studies on this, to look at clear air convection cells. No funding for this now. The only hints of violent clear air convection cells come from jets who hit them.
