Moderation meta - Santa Clara Principles

For anyone feeling pressured to join in with the #FediBlock dogpile on the well-meaning noobs at journo.host (or any other server for that matter), I strongly recommend having a read and a think about the Santa Clara Principles On Transparency and Accountability in Content Moderation:

@obi Ah makes perfect sense. :-)

> @marathon0 when coal miners were losing their jobs, mainly in WV a few years ago, it was being discussed on the news a lot. The left wing media was suggesting (mirrored by other left wing news) that the coal miners would just need to adapt, and Learn to Code. A little ridiculous, for the type of job and experience they were coming from, but they kept saying it. Then, a bit later, some journalists were losing their job, and the right wing were Tweeting them with the hastag . This got trending, and Twitter a believe banned/suppressed the hashtag and was banning people who said it to the journalists, saying it was "harassment". After seeing the twitter engineers losing their job, the first thing I thought of was well, they have to adapt, the can . Obviously a ridiculous statement, but the same thing people were saying to the coal miners.

> Sorry, probably not many people would get that I guess. My bad.

Disinformation flourishes because many people care deeply about injustice but very few check the facts.

@freemo well done on the article. Despite your obvious anger, you've managed to keep to the facts.

FYI, qoto.org is still listed on instances.social

@dennis_jernberg

Regardless, it's still blocked for the wrong reasons. There are justifications for marginlized people around the world for feeling the way they do. It shouldn't be a reason to censor valuable information for ALL people, however. That's not helping black folks who may need cyber-security information to protect themselves or their sytem(s).

@clearing_fog

@obi I'm not the saviest around, could you explain to this dumbarse the significance of the learntocoalmine tag?

@jgg
I've heard so before. Not sure I buy into that - we shall see.

This made me snort! Ripped off from atrophy wife on the Birdsite.

When you boost anything (such as ), how do you add content warning to a boost that didn’t have a CW to start with? ? And another question is “How come suggested hashtags aren’t in CamelCase?”

Might there be a glut of software engineers soon? Perhaps the pompous Birdsite employees that left voluntary will regret that decision in the near future? Just some musings of my own …

'At the time, Argentina’s regime, the bloodiest in modern South American history, was rounding up thousands of real and presumed leftists and putting them in torture camps or killing them outright in what came to called the “dirty war.” The dictatorship lasted seven years, during which at least 8,960 people disappeared, according to official estimates. Some human rights groups put the figure at 30,000.'

After hearing some feedback,a nd wanting to be fair in my representation, I have change the title of the article. It is now:

# Eugen Rochko, CEO of Mastodon, Caves to Nazi's Agenda

I think we can all agree thats a more faithful title.
