@lucifargundam Depends what people believe. All they can surrender is last login timestamp and (arguably) IP list @PawelK
@clyminghawk Great to hear! I love it here, personally.
@HikerFromVA I've certain instances (servers) have been slow due to the recent influx of new users.
@PawelK Yup. That's why Proton's servers in Switzerland are so important.
@Odaeus I understand your stance. As is the case with Forks. For me, it is about the features. But hey, that's just me. The beauty of choice is incontrovertible 😀
So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.
Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.
If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.
If you want to see QOTO stick around you can email your objecttion here:
hello@joinmastodon.org
Feel free to CC me here: jeffrey.freeman@qoto.org
Please be respectful, we want to show them we are the good guys and not give them any reason to object.
@Odaeus Yeah, his next 2 features he will be putting in is translation, and editing, soon.
@clyminghawk That's a very thoughtful approach. If it makes you feel any better, I see the things you describe on the local timeline here constantly, and is well within the rules. This is about the most open instance out there, so feel free. I don't think you will find a place that is specifically all of those things, nor will any of us find a place where only our specific interests are posted.
@Odaeus https://git.qoto.org/qoto/qoto/activity activity logs if that helps.
Some advice I have seen (which you may find useful):
* post about things that interest you, and include hashtags (for instance "birdwatching")
* boost posts that you find interesting from others - while there is no algorithm which those actions drive, it fosters connections as well
* spend some quality time finding people to follow - I love reading a variety of science topics, and I found a list of science journalists to follow on Reddit
On that last point, doing a more general web search to find mastodon users with whom you share interests is probably better than trying to find them on Mastodon itself.
@IAmErik Yup, always have to preselect it.
@PawelK Yeah, I was talking about this with someone else too. I think the only thing that a government could do is send a legal letter to the instance owner. Instance owner is not going to follow hundreds of jurisdiction laws. Government could then take legal action, but if the instance owner isn't in the same country as the government requester, nothing would happen, unless the government bans the domain and looks like China.
@PawelK my personal side is moderation based on the US Penal code. But that's just me.
@PawelK Where you are at right now?
@Odaeus qoto is running a forked version of mastodon with additional features not found in traditional mastodon. New features will be added as time goes on.
pronounced (Obi) oh-bye. I like logic.
