@Surasanji
My understanding is that they draw a causal relation, just not a direct one. Please, point out if I'm getting it wrong, the papers conclusions don't seem very clear to me, they keep jumping from one position to another =D
" the firm’s monopolistic practices forced Bt. farmers to invest heavily in something for which they lacked the proper management skills. "
"there is a definite association between economic factors associated with Bt. cotton farming and farmer-suicide"
I more or less agree... I mean, GMOs could be a pretty good tool, but they have often been used in combination with fertilizers and pesticides which are harming the soil and making it a desert quite quick. Other issues seen have been that GMOs have been heavily implemented, leading to the loss of biodiversity, and at the same time a more frail crop.
But this are problems with the implementation, not with gmos themselves, which so far haven't shown a single health or ecological hazard, AFAIK. So i agree, just wanted to toss couple of consideration more =)
@neverfadingwood
Thanks, the article is interesting.
I don't like Vandana Shiva and in this article she alone is the basic source of opinions against bt. cotton, so I'm kind of skeptic of the whole conclusions.
The matter of correlating monsanto product usage with suicides seems still fairly open to debate to me.
In any case, I wouldn't mix GMOs in and by themselves with one company policies. That's just me though.
@neverfadingwood
Some monsanto seeds growing accidentally on a ground and farmers have to pay for it?
I also didn't know about seeds that don't grow without fertilizer... it strucks me as weird, honestly.
I'm interested, could you please link some material?
I've just redesigned my experimental garden's shape. I couldn't stand all those keyholes and weird paths anymore.
Wrote a small article about it, which is like a long toot with more pictures, in case anyone is curious about it: http://www.arteteco.com/20shapes/
Mastodon help request
@delibrarian
Have you try to put them on a list but not following them, so they'll not appear in your home timeline?
@delibrarian What was wrong with the VM option? That is what I guess I'll have to do now
@simon_brooke Thanks for your answer, but it lists too many softwares, often without license and looking through them all would take me a lot of time...
@suetanvil@mastodon.technology Hi, thanks for the answer. I have a winXP on KVM, I'll see how it goes. It also says on the bioedit website that "New version is WinXP compatible " 😭
I don't like to spend time studying stuff that I'll throw out the window as soon as the exam is done, but seems the only option...
My #phylogenetics professor wants us to work with BioEdit. This program is:
* #proprietarysoftware, even though free (as in free beer)
* Only works with Windows, can't even manage to install it on VM with Wine.
* **is unmaintained since 2009**.
Please #FOSS and #science community, help me find something I can work it that doesn't feel like wearing a shoe filled with beans, or at least install this thing... seems like winxp is slow up to uselessness in VM for some reason.
Thanks!

@PJanuszka I receive many emails like that, in some addresses which are public on websites.
It made me realize that I do not know how I look in my moments of, let's say, self love, and I'm quite curious about it. Unfortunately, when I ask for the video they don't answer.
@t54r4n1
Why is housing crisis a feminist issue and not just an issue? Honest question
@freemo Yeah, I understand the etology, it's just so crazy to think that a being can think of it not being. Woah.
It's a very interesting topic and a nice interview you linked, thanks for bringing it up
@freemo
What... what does it mean 'the ant think its dead'? Like 'oh, I'm dead, lets get to work on that'? I wonder what could lead to evolve such a response... must look into it.
#enthomology is for crazy people.
