@freemo Occasionally slow.
@freemo @Pat have you enabled the instance ticker? i think it does some kind of request which times out.
cf.

I don't see anything about "themes" in the profile or preferences setting on my client.
(I didn't go through every one cause it takes 20s to load on each click.)
Found it. Changed to Mastodon default Theme (dark)" and now the pages are loading quickly.
More data points...
- I pinged all the IP4 addresses resolved from qoto.org and lb.qoto.org and they'e in the 20's ms.
- Tried to load video.qoto.org and the page loads are intermittently slow, but I think that may be related to snatching the videos from the various peertube instances.
It is almost certainly the ticker's domain not resolving which gets you stuck on DNS resolution until it timesout.
My guess it is the issue with the tickers, the domain is probably down so its stuck trying to resolve it. does the new theme have tickers?
@jeffdean @freemo @Pat we can probably expect the #fediverse to suffer a lot of performance problems this month
@freemo A bit while loading media during peak US hours last night, but it wasn't too bad. Just took like 5-10 seconds or so.
@freemo - All good for me this afternoon (UK time)
@freemo seems okay for me!
Love that you're checking! 🙏
@freemo Initial connection was very very slow. Once connected, things sped up. Still slight lag on new page loads.
@freemo QOTO itself seems fine, but page loads on QOTO are making calls to miy.pw, which is slow and occasionally returning a 503 error. The only call I could find in the browser network debugger is for some CSS: https://miy.pw/css/12.css
@deegeese yes this is because the ticker service recently came down.. switching to a theme without a ticker will solve it.. im fixing it
@freemo I had switched to no-ticker, and when I re-enabled the default, the slowdown returned.
@deegeese yes, of course it would.. you have to keep teh no-ticker enabled. With the ticker down it is equivalent without the broken call.
@freemo Sorry, I misunderstood that you had taken the ticker out of 'QOTO Default' when you actually changed the default to no-ticker.
@freemo @Pat working fast for me.
