Okay. $dayjob has gotten to the point where I need to do something about it.

I'm officially looking for other opportunities in the sysadmin/IT/devops/etc space. I've been a linux/unix sysadmin generalist for ~20 years now and I'd like to apply my considerable skills and experience to the aid of some organization seeking to do good things in the world.

You can find my resume at github.com/48kRAM/resume (Yes, my resume has a Makefile)

Open to both remote positions but also to relocation. I enjoy having my hands on hardware and fixing problems. And, of course, I'll bring all the retro gaming nerdery with me.

I'd love to #getfedihired :)

Thanks

@post @freemo @feld your point is flawed for many reasons:
- first the summary of evidence of non homogeneous and low quality studies doesn't give you an increased quality of evidence, this is the foundation of MAs and they knew, so they state quite clearly what we can say and what we can not with those results
- second, It seems that you miss the idea behind hypothesis testing and you are doing one of the biggest mistake in biostat: absence of proofs is not a proof itself

@freemo @mc My Math background did get me involved in undergrad research alongside PhDs and many things that I should have received credit for.

There was a competition that might have been to replace an older system that had been publicly defeated. Perhaps I ended up homeless while working on this and I was treated like trash by faculty. Some areas of research are kept separate from everything else. I still won't talk about what it actually was but consider a part of infrastructure going down and what happens in the chaos. That's the last clue.

A while after that I was more seasoned in Comp Sci. I was doing research with equipment that only I could get. A select few believed in it and I got treated like shit again. My equipment, my money and my hard work were being mocked. I started my own personal research and poured my all into it.

I made sure to send links to the faculty and students who treated me so poorly. The links were to publications where my work was referenced by a legend. They did the impressive part of the work but my contribution was acknowledged.

So there's a killer comeback that only a few know of. The best part is that I was willing to credit the University in some way but I was roasted by faculty and students on my way to try to get them involved.

Perhaps I handled it like a Mathematician. They didn't get undeserved credit nor did I ever mention them by name so their name wouldn't be present in any of the work.

I don't believe I have ever made more than 20k in a year. I continually have problems with employment. I was treated nicely and encouraged by the right person and as a last resort, I showed a department that maybe they had a lapse in judgement. I still get angry about it but I pushed for changes that should have made a positive impact. They likely wouldn't credit me if my proposals were made into policy. Universities love to cover things up.

Just thought I'd share that little gem for those of you who had to deal with academia and its unique values.

If this is a two-dimensional projection of a three-dimensional placement of people within a spaceship that's traveling at 98% of the speed of light, maybe.

I was missing a bit Twitter Analytics, but I found another free tool to get #metrics on your #Mastodon account! It’s called #Mastotools and it’s pretty easy to use.

Fast and simple and working on Mac too 😉

I wonder what the correlation between sandal wearing and foot fetishes in a society might be.

I suspect an inverse logistic function of some sort...

Fashion does change, but the pursuit of beauty probably does not.

Suits look great on gentlemen, but also handsome on women. Likewise, although dresses (in modern times) are generally considered to be women's clothing, they look just as good on men when properly dressed.

I don't think clothing should be tied to gender, if it looks good, then it's pretty/beautiful. If it's not, kindly offer your advice (about dressing techniques, not your opinions about genders and clothes), or just turn your head away, simply don't look.

Also, cats generally don't share the same gender with humans, but human clothes look pretty on them too.

FYI has temporarily silenced mastodon.social until they get their spam attack under control at which point the silence will be removed.

Sooo just a reminder:

Dresses were the norm for boys in 100+ years ago, and the color pink was a color for boys as well.

Oh yea and in the 1700s it was normal fashion for men to wear high heels.

But hey, lets make up whatever fake history we want to make gender norms sound like they have always been the same and that "cross dressing" and "drag" are somehow new inventions.

Anyone fancy doing a PhD on the uses of wild bee pollination as a nature-based solution in fjordside horticultural production? If you like the idea of having fieldsites that look like the one pictured below then check this out: nina-english.attract.reachmee. @jobsecoevo

I took the day to decompress from the ugly, racist incident that I experienced this morning. A woman pointed a blow torch (that had fuel) at me like a weapon, and said she was going to burn me and my dog because we were ugly Chinese hos. I felt sorry for her and told her to have a good day. And that my dog was not Chinese, but Australian.

I hope one day that this country gets its act together to do more for the mentally unwell, in ways that aren’t simply about punishment and incarceration.

I've been making progress on my inference in book draft. Latest addition is the multi-level modelling chapter. Check it out and then post your feedback here. Thanks!
