To be clear, this study, as they explicitly state, in no way directly counted pregnancies. This is simply an **estimate** made by taking the number of rape events and multiplying it by the typical background fertility rate.

So these are **not** actual numbers, simply an estimate. Here is the relevant text explaining this.

More importantly what this study intentionally ignores is that many of these women likely went out of state to get abortions. Meaning the actual number of pregnancies resulting from rape in these states is almost certainly far lower than the numbers stated here. In fact 10% of the numbers explicitly occured in states where they would legally be allowed abortions.

So yea these numbers are grossly inaccurate and they make it clear these are not "real" numbers.

I have assumed that it was “fair” to blame Nixon as the originator, particularly as the falsehood that he kicked off these policies in order to get reelected seemed accurate and truthful - it seemed to align with my understanding of his personality. I easily imagined that would be his intent.

I was wrong - he intended to reduce the suffering of returning vets who were addicted.

Thank you. I’m continually surprised by my ignorance and the ease with which I accept as fact things I read and watch….

The outcomes I was referring to relate to those delivered by decades of the “war on drugs.” In particular, the narco traffickers and the induced migration of those fleeing the resulting violence not to mention the focus on enforcement and incarceration rather than treatment and prevention.

A friend just got her hair cut in Alabama. Her stylist said she recently had an ectopic pregnancy. Her doctor prescribed the abortion pill, but no pharmacies in Huntsville (a city full of PhD rocket scientists) would fill it. She finally found one pharmacy, but the pills didn't work. Nobody would do anything else to help her. Finally her fallopian tube ruptured and she had emergency surgery. I can't believe women now have to have a medical emergency for basic care. #WomensHealthCare #Abortion

But everyone is trapped in thinking that there are only two options and they have to vote for "the lesser of two evils" which means the two evils remain the dominant force which leads back to the first thing I said in an vicious cycle.
