And now I'm thinking of sailing on the lake in the summer. The wind is horrible because of the surrounding highlands, so I'm always looking for tiny ripple patterns. They indicate a huge convection vortex is about to hit me, and I prepare. Without measuring the huge energy of the vortex, I could think the ripples are going to hit me, or that the ripples bring the wind.
ps. I've never realized that when you eliminate physics, then 'cause and effect' are fluid concepts. In my alternate dimension of physics, entropy dictates that energy must flow from cause to effect, and that 'cause' is much higher energy. But in debate, nobody calculates energy.
**Separation of Influences** Cause and effect can be reversed in our influencer land. In physics land, the stratosphere is influenced by surface temperatures through massive clear-air convection cells, which haven't been measured since the 70's.
I'm not doing 'physics and weather' hashtags any more. I have no effect.
However, the Jet Stream is totally an effect of warm and cold air masses colliding. That's where the energy comes from. However, influencers will state that the JS can influence surface weather, effectively moving air masses, when, in fact, it is being moved by the air masses. The physics for this is only available in physics-land and wiki-thing.
I only object to this thinking because Old Occam says the tail cannot wag the dog. But in our modern world, the tails are all over the place, because that is interesting. Physics is not.... And the weather guys have to make things interesting, or they are off the air.
@ingalls Yeah, it's probably a good flag. I would think it is hard to separate an energy event on the surface, having an effect on the stratosphere. So far, in my physics world of one, I see massive energy events that follow the laws of physics. I put Occam's razor away for now, too sharp and deadly. :)
@ingalls That's possible, but unmeasurable, because the effect would be below noise of the surface influences. Nobody can separate that in my alternate physics dimension, but it is a common thing for influencers to say the butterfly can turn the hurricane. :) All things are possible....
@Pat If you can directly measure the effect of the ozone situation on the weather, using the laws of physics, then you are a miracle worker. However, the ozone is affected by surface temperature.
@TheOldGuy 97% of the Russian army is currently getting blown up.
@WyWyWa I guess that's selling feature, like 'no pool'...
#earthquake **Rescue operations end, bulldozers take over** It happens with every earthquake, the rubble must be cleared. We can only guess at the total number dead, and it will probably be over 100,000.
**The quest to become 'unsueable'** The US is now in the position where innocent companies (roundup) can't stand up to the power lawyer lobby. The Ohio derailment is a classic 'smoking gun' 'Ford Pinto' 'tobacco' class action case, but will it succeed? The sleazy companies know that when they take out all monitoring, there will be a disaster, but that could be years. **In the meantime, make out like bandits!**
So, they would have a plan to cut and run. No deep pockets mean no law suits. What about big earthquakes caused by injection? All little companies feeding Big Oil. In the US, with no regulations, if there is no threat of lawsuits, there are no limits. The result will be many more disasters, and the closing of barn doors after the expected horsie escape....
@thepoliticalcat @shuttersparks Nah, those Julia Roberts lawyers can get a huge class action, rake 90% out of it, and give out the remainder. Nobody needs any money. But, I'm not arguing any more. We'll have to see.
@fatamorgana This winter for us, it's Spring, Winter, Spring, Winter...
@peterdrake Looks like the end of a successful week. The moss has to go back to the farm.
@thepoliticalcat @shuttersparks No, the carpet bagger lawyers come in.
Descended from Unix freaks, I evolved to Linux. Some people might consider me old at 60+, but I'm suing the world to get my age down to 30.
I have a blog https://ontario-geofish.blogspot.com/
and it is read by 8 people. My formal education is in an extinct branch of science called geophysics. Since there was no money in it, I went to engineering. I've done tunnels, radwaste thingies, etc.
