FYI for newbies

To all new users: Welcome to the Fediverse. Enjoy the ride, be polite and all that. Just have fun. This ain't too different from Twitter features-wise, so it should be pretty easy to pick up.

Don't forget to set your profile text and picture so that you're your unique self. And remember, interaction is the easiest way to gain friends.

The Federated Timeline can be quite a busy place. You can mute people and whole instances when you think you don't like their content. Don't get agitated, just filter them out this way.

Don't forget to set your language preferences in the settings so that you might see less foreign languages that you can't understand coming from foreign instances.

And lastly, remember.. this ain't Twitter.

It sure is getting busy here. I wonder what Qoto's user stats will look like. Maybe we'll see a sudden spike? :P

Uhh... Ordered: A steel design laptop storage case.
Got: A plexiglass one where the seams are almost falling apart, screws are rusty, power strip is glued so we can't get to there, and missing one rubber leg.
This stupid thing is going back. Prutz0rs.

Weirdest reason to leave for job on time (or less late anyway): gigantic power outage in my part of town. :P

Had a nice walk in a forest today. Very sunny.

Buddy asked me to vectorize a logo he's designed. Thing is, he designed his logo very geometrically... even added notes of lengths, distances, etc.

So it was fairly easy! ;)

Just finished watching Supersize Me 2. I think Morgan's a pretty cool guy, he's quite tongue in cheek with his actions. If you can't beat them, join them! With a twist. ;)

Hope he makes more documentaries like this, because I'd like to know how this saga continues.

And maybe I should eat less chicken? I already barely eat any fast food if at all, but I still eat chicken regularly and it's probably of the same kind as those 6-weeks-to-grow chickens.

That was 3 hours of gardening (read: cutting branches into pieces and putting in the bin) today. Dad'll do the big ones with the chainsaw tomorrow. I'm definitely going to have a rest day tomorrow because I'm pretty sure I'm going to regret this... All my fingers are wrapped in bandaids and I'm going to be oh so sore. :P

Just installed Signal to see what it's like. The desktop app is acceptable. It can minimize to tray bar, which is extremely important to me as my task bar is cluttered enough as is. Customization options on both desktop and mobile are reasonably nice too. I guess I can run this messenger too.

Now to wait until after easter to contact my coworkers. :P

Iris and the Giant is currently in a giveaway on GOG (scroll down the link a little bit). It's a nice deckbuilding roguelike game.

I decided to take a peek at what's new in Minecraft via one of those modpacks on CurseForge since it's been a while I played MC. Decided to take a look at Better Minecraft 1.18.2, the Fabric version. Never tried a modpack with Fabric before, so I thought eh, why not.

It kinda felt like a new game to me in some ways. Could be the modpack, could be Fabric, could be that it's 1.18, or could be that I'm simply out of the loop. The last MC version I played is probably 1.16. I think I should install the Forge version of the same pack to look at the differences. Might not be too different I suspect.

But so far I saw some new (desert, spawned in one) creatures. A haunted ghost town with ghosts floating around.. New building styles. New flora and its food. New and wondrous rock formations. At least I'm familiar with Xaero's World Map and Minimap, so I'm not too lost. :P

I might explore in there some more, since this mapgen I got is a nice one. And in the meantime the Kittens Game can run in the background. ;)

Edit:
Ah I'm just reading that both Fabric and Forge versions have overlapping mods, but also that both have their own unique mods and each offer a different experience. That's interesting.

I read that Forge allows you to ride dragons... I'm so tempted to just switch over, ha. Can use the same map seed and get the same kind of map hopefully. :D

Edit 2:
Yeah, there are some differences. Landmarks are largely the same, but some contents have been changed. Even the animals differ. It's pretty cool though. I kinda have to choose between new mob bosses, or riding dragons. Considering I've watched How to train your Dragon lately... might go for the dragon riding. :P

Been a bit less available the past few days.

Progress on the back fence is progressing nicely. Powerwashing it made it from deep mossy green to wooden brown, quite a contrast. We're almost ready to give it a protective coat (with a color, dad would like green, I'm like eh fine). And we can look what options there are for a corrugated roof. I think I'd want a shiny red one, just 'cause I can. ;)

The shared fence with the neighbours on the right side is almost done. The neighbour and his dad built it up, and I only need to pay for half of the material cost. Neat!

For the shared fence with my left neighbours we have a solution for the rotten posts. Leftover old posts from the other fence can be reused there, so no extra cost there.

Now the other reason for my scarcity is online.

Since Player.me is.. uh.. maybe shutting down (they can't make up their minds, but that site is seriously as good as dead), many of my former gaming community moved on to infinitebacklog.nl and I see a lot of familiar faces. So eh, I'm kinda posting a bit more there lately, especially game-related stuff, so maybe my gaming posts here will be less. I'm not certain yet. There's a lot more gaming talk interaction over at IB, which is nice.

So... uh. How are you all doing? :P

Neat. Just checked. King's Day we might have this huge flea market again in town after a 2-year hiatus. I might go, never know what fun stuff you can find there. It's the perfect moment to buy rubbish for home!

If gardening would yield achievements like gaming does, it'd be a lot easier to maintain my garden. :P

While checking old logs I stumbled on the Kittens Game again... kittensgame.com/web/#

An idle game involving kittens. I won't be held responsible if you're suddenly missing large chunks of your life. :P

Heh, why does it not surprise me to read that Player.me is going to shut down? That place went to the shitter after they made their intent clear to focus on streamers mostly and then we got flooded with 'plz follow my stream' spam in our timeline.

Actually, it's probably just as well because that led me to search for alternatives, and I ended up here in the Fediverse. :)

If any, I'm more surprised that they managed to survive for this long. That place was most fun somewhere before 2018, we had great gaming conversations then. Kinda miss that time a little.

Gosh, I really hate iPads.
I hate iOS.
I definitely hate iTunes.

Gosh, somehow I hate Apple software, they're way too dumbed down and don't even show progress indicators. Jeez. I'm wasting my time here!

Oh, right. Bitburner had an ASCII rickroll today. Fully animated too.

That was amusing and is well done.
