@_foxaru The people who run that can be reached at hello@joinmastodon.org

My impression is a few people trying to dig up dirt about us fabricated/twisted/exaggerated things and tried to convince them to take us down.

They have a history of negligence where they will take servers off without doing due diligence or even contacting the server to discussed with them. We were taken off twice and both times they reinstated us and both times itt was because they never bothered to act responsibility by reaching out to us or investigating the situation first.

So my guess is itts more negligence than direct animosity.

@BilliardLentil

Oh dont worry I am not upset with you. I appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

What made you think the CSAM thing was the reason? Are you assuming or did you see some conversation with the mastodon leadership?

@JoshuaACasey @Gargron @trinsec @khird

It's easier to smack down an instance you are kinda jealous of rather than bother with things like checking facts so long as you have an excuse to do so. God forbid anyone get confused with the facts.

@JoshuaACasey

Thats the problem, people dont do due diligence, they see some conversation in private and outt of context, dont even bother to take the 5 seconds it takes to ask for more info, and then act on it regardless of what damage may come for others...

I expect better from the leaders of mastodon.

@BilliardLentil @Gargron @trinsec @khird

For those curious it seems one person claimed this was due to a conversationn i had where asked about if we would block child porn... I said it isnt something we ever faced and didnt have set rules on it, but i am pretty certain we would block it.

Anyway shortly after that I had the conversation witht he mods and as expectted agreed we would block it, our TOS was updated accordingly with the following:

"Offending servers will only be silenced, not blocked, blocks will be reserved for technical assaults only such as DDoS attacks, or legal issues such as sexual abuse and child porn."

But of course whoever handles tthat directory did absolutely **no** due diligence and didnt even once reach out to us to fact check.

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence. Since...

@BilliardLentil

What about it, all changes to the rules must be voted on by the three elected mods... We coted on it shortly after being asked and decided (as expected) it would warrant a block. Our rules were updated to reflect that:

"Offending servers will only be silenced, not blocked, blocks will be reserved for technical assaults only such as DDoS attacks, or legal issues such as sexual abuse and child porn."

@Gargron @trinsec @khird

@BilliardLentil

Also after being asked I discussed with our moderators and we all agreed we would block servers that conduct illegal business including sexual abuse and child porn. We have explicitly put this in our rules since then as is seen on our about page here:

"Offending servers will only be silenced, not blocked, blocks will be reserved for technical assaults only such as DDoS attacks, or legal issues such as sexual abuse and child porn."

So again... nonsennse.

@Gargron @trinsec @khird

@BilliardLentil

What? We said we never faced it and would have to vote onn the incident but would almost certainly block it... what are you on about.

@Gargron @trinsec @khird

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.

Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.

If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.

If you want to see QOTO stick around you can email your objecttion here:

hello@joinmastodon.org

Feel free to CC me here: jeffrey.freeman@qoto.org

Please be respectful, we want to show them we are the good guys and not give them any reason to object.

@Gargron @trinsec @khird

@obi

That is correct, as a fork our versions dont track anymore.

@Odaeus

@trinsec

If its for profit its not allowed here, but there are instances that is welcome (most in fact)... We are for STEM only and non-profit only

That said if you occasionally post something about a for-profit project you work on among other unrelated stuff we wont mind.

@admitsWrongIfProven

@realcaseyrollins Actually it has, in fact the latest surge started almost exactly when twitter outtages started (see attached graphs.

This also isnt the first time this happened since musk took over, itt has been constant... First he ttook down microservices without understanding it and all 2FA broke so people couldnt login at all.. Their infra engineers were also sacked and this caused the site to slow to a crawl in some areas.

For those of you who need a graphical explanation of how the fediverse works...

Impzbot :swoobat:
friend was explaining to me how mastodon instances worked last night and i drew this

@louiscouture It takes a special sort of stupid to think putin is the good guy... i cant even with the stupidity these days

@jellycrystals jesus christ these services need to fix their shit instead of making me look through 20,000 users for an ip address in an description... funny they dont seem to block twitter when this happens.

@Romaq the invite link isnt the issue.. the issue is the service which is issuing the malware warning that your friend is seeing.
