So, introduction post... eeek!

I've starting my migration over from the failing bird app to look for a platform to continue keeping up-to-date with like minded folk. I tend to enjoy learning from others in the field and will often post things acute med, obs med or leadership in medicine related.

Anyone got the hang of this app yet? It's going to take a while

Going to whirl over the next month or so, see how we go.
Live a couple of games, try and cover some news, what I can as a from the 🇬🇧

If that goes well, mix in some talk, start by covering games. If things are going well, some talk and finally some talk

Let's go

@freemo @MrsDi @DrK @arinbasu @SteveZissou I am a newbie too (not though). I really appreciate all the post and hints as to how to conduct ‘business’ in here. Enjoying it way more than I should.

@General

“All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

"They're not the same at all!"

YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—"

MY POINT EXACTLY.”

I'll set an NA Guinness Stout aside for the purpose. Let me know when it's time! I do love a brew you have to chew.

In my opinion, criticisms of mastodon being unusable by the general public are over blown.

A list of journalists on the fediverse... very useful.

@zonarolo

@freemo I haven't been here long & still finding my way round, but I'm liking it so far. Hope you get your small bugs sorted. Sending lots of energy to help. Thank you

I am going to try to find time this weekend to add in several new features to QOTO, fix a few small bugs, and if we aare REALLY lucky and things go well I might release a new version of QOTO this weekend (no promises though my life is CRAZY right now, hard to predict).

@DrK @freemo @SteveZissou

I too think this is really a good decent server; if you check the local timeline, you will discover nice folks around. The editor is well designed, and this server actually allows you to integrate other federated tools, that's fantastic. I also found nice uptime and so on.

@freemo @arinbasu @SteveZissou I’m very new here, but must say I’m loving this server! Excited to be part of such a great community which is not something I’ve felt on social media before! 🤩

Looks like I might just hit 30K followers in the next 3 days or so at current rates... Who wants to have a beer to celebrate?

@freemo @SteveZissou

You have set up an extraordinary server. And an ecosystem that can enable people to do and write good science on
Qoto.org is like of fediverse.

@freemo

As I often say these days, there's bog . Then there's qoto.org Mastodon, ;-)

Another app we may need to consider
is
curvenote.com

They integrate notebooks with text editor for version control and is an excellent editor. I will see if we can get the developers here and have a discussion. Great tool!

As someone with Stage 4 cancer, I was really struck by this quote at the beginning of Mukherjee's "The Emperor of All Maladies:"

"Illness is the night-side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use only the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place." -- Susan Sontag
