Ok here's something you might need to do and as a kind of fan of many things seeing things come and go, I having learned a lot from good and bad.

Also what hasn't been served to audience consistently is the *human-connecting* work to really help things keep rolling themselves (this is the key to a lot between us being *with* the people.... and for all various reasons too if it's all love for it)

Below are reasons explained to why in action points that will infinitely help I think and then latter half is for the people theory....

1 ➡️ I recommend the logo NOT being two dots in the @selfh.st account

Might seem harsh, but it is because the two dots are seemingly unconnected and generic (at least at first sight). So instead have the almighty RJ45 port as picture which most everyone can relate to. It's very visible as white circle and kind of what you do a lot of as your show theme (as a known cable / protocol and what that relates to us all instantly = that's ace).

(see attached picture for RJ45 white circle or optionally with large SELF HOSTED text so it's self-descriptive and visible in profile avatar as a show not just generic picture icon)


2 ➡️ In your description text for your personal account you point to "@selfh.st" (which could be a hyperlink if you instead pasted: @selfhst in the description.

(I know you have it already linked above, but as a link in the text description, it makes it more obvious it's an account and not just a name. Also makes it available to click there and shows this is more your personal account and that one is for the show.)

I am following both for example - so this is measurable exposure / people can click and follow both from the beginning and see it as separate thing. I didn't notice the show thing on first look which is easy to do as people skip over everything.

3 ➡️ Consider a SELFHOSTED banner on your profile (pic attached as example)

RIGHT NOW YOUR PROFILE BANNER IS MISSING / DOESN'T SHOW FOR ME
(disclaimer: this could be my side momentarily but your personal profile banner is blank my end). So double check that and anyway try my banner pic attached I've sent as a test to see how it looks, again says Self hosted more literally.

4 ➡️ Make a pinned post with this banner in your personal account so permanently at the top of your posts and what people can see clearly further down a bit. Could be the same banner graphic for now and add something similar later since it's easy to edit / redraft a pinned post.

5 ➡️ For me a "better" example post or just another type visually is below to give idea what I mean (it's what I made to advertise you already):

Because from that example you can see...

➡️ Larger thumbnail text / picture says "SELF HOSTED" IN MASSIVE TEXT and as your logo.

This means even on smallest device, on any feed or random post somewhere, I can see and read that text as thumbnail even in passing and instantly remember and know it's you guys. Even without even reading post text too. It's clear as a logo.

6➡️ LINK TO YOURSELF FIRST and NOT TO google youtube(just to make that clear) as I noticed that on your post (it's political for people again looking)

6➡️ And for the Youtube links consider Invidious filtered links for those ( filters Google YouTube pages and drops the tracking and junk code as you know ) - so for example your link for the last post could be revised as:

instead of youtu.be/vltO2iHvnL4
and putting your these types of links first " selfhosted.show/133 " as that is very literal and short (nice one!)

OVERALL / SUMMARY

This helps non-mainstream Mastodon / Fediverse-friendly types to stay that way as much as possible. It's all linked even if I admit not all devs get that or even understand how us being data-harvested from far via Fediverse to Google with 1000's of links here is happening every day when all these people put direct links to google (slap-face emoji) and not even attempt a 2nd alternative link. Fediverse as just another farm (?), I don't think so! :)

So again I prefer your direct link to site first like 'No Google October' selfhosted.show/133) and the title pages like you have already as selfh.st/newsletter/2024-12-20 though it's a smaller thumbnail / less obvious.

Literally the links you have show you're in alignment to 'self-hosting' / links and traffic stats on your site which you can see from there (which shouldn't use google also). You know that I'm sure... so at least not google youtube first.

WHY DID I BOTHER WRITING THIS? ...AND TAKE SO MUCH TIME?

➡️ It shows a bit of dedication and how much energy soem people have,

➡️ but also coming from me, someone who has seen everything come and go - a lot but without people personally connected, just consuming. Even if I might no nothing or am a total non-expert, it's still obvious we need everyone to get things to work, low to high level like gears on a bike. And still the many movements, projects, dreams etc DON'T spend time on people / fans or align to these things above. No wonder we have to put all eggs with Musk if we don't focus on our own peers!

SO WE NEED TO HOOK IN EVERY SINGLE PERSON INTERESTED FROM FEDIVERSE MOSTLY AFTER THE COMPUTER / BASIC CONTENT which we have.. and now it's also about people like me that you can consider building on top of as a person too... Sad but true! If not, then it almost counts *against* movements and audiences when any show is trying but actually ending up doing the opposite as just content but not really people conversion (sort of half the work also).

Self-hosted / Self-development etc... self... while helping ourselves get it together build we can and discover more that we actually like.

AGAIN even the crappiest person has some ability which people can help find and tap into with their consent to solve / evolve all things.

EXTENDED VERSION (EXTRA PART ABOUT PEOPLE BEING THE WORK NOW, NOT JUST COMPUTERS)

Fixing people and computers takes dedicated time. Yes fixing people and their mentality / habits like going to gym together does need examples somewhat. People in general and Users of any system are the weak point! You heard it here first and nowhere else!

This is why *not working with us fans* or not working with me slowly will rot t instead of helping us get better connected or find out *what we can work on* to sort us all out / put priority in building life instead of news chasing.

So as main last point ...

➡️ Involve even the most smallest guy on the internet - get them to draw a picture or add any graphic you can re-post - just about ANYTHING to keep them in touch and loop for like-minded people, much like / of the overall kind, but people too. We are so sucked into bashing and computer from early again, we forgot people. It would help us all get sucked out of those vortices a bit more.

I think I and others are an amazing person (lol as you can see I am) but I mean we have a special combination of likes/habits that many movements or projects absolutely fail from tapping into and fizzle out from it (even the amazing people here already on Fediverse are fizzling out) because they can't do the people work they need or find a way to *allow* sharing themselves or material from afar. Even those almost shouting for attention ironically - and then people wonder why are shouting. So instead they stay head-down in and with ONLY computers compounding the problem.

You can ask me later about who on Fediverse (!) but respectfully you can see why people rant or give up when there is no other outlet of consideration even for fans who like the shit and want for exploration / collaboration - it's really one of biggest potentials out there if not keeping the fun going... that's why can help...

And without harping on too much (thanks for reading, bookmark this or follow to not forget) it's easy to forget people because it is about enjoying each others stuff and EVERYTHING incrementally selfhosted or otherwise because it then loops it all back around. Yeah. A Perfect Cicle.

We can stick many of the same or similar stuff together (or at least I can) until the "end of world" reaches nearer and all this will be all the more valuable as people will want to cling on to what matters most, and perhaps we are preparing / paving the way for that now - I guess ! (You tell me also !) :)

@cmthiede GOOD stuff... 'but' at the same time (or in contrast), I'm looking for the plenty of opportunity to push through each others work and build / paint each other.
I like what you said and the 'but' doesn't undo it. But it's almost too passive as it's not 'forcing' our own friendships and more one-way.

Of course I know nothing about you or your work so you can forgive / accept that and make something towards what was said as the healthy part because this Fediverse place is a nice museum almost but we need to re-create each other / be part of each other to win together rather than be on-lookers of it all.

Here's what I'd ask in a few ways, so you can see what I'm getting out (no hate in asking)...

1. How do you or RMS think computer-only ways (or even computer-first ways) are going to get us to what is a human mentality or psychological problem where humans need to help humans understand it (not just 1 way videos either)

( so he's done great work but without looping more people into HUMANity and more meaning between us, how does that go beyond repeating and people never gettign it sometimes? )

Aren't users the problem or won't they be the main problem left after all the software is perfected?... i.e. there's limits to computing right in social setting? And even with perfected software it's the mentality of the people like a needed. To help hold their hand? Even with answer some people just can't make jump or feels too alone so need to them.

(and if not him then his fans doing the hard work with his nod as a kind of effort of mutual support at lower levels he can't / might not want to reach (which I see him as almost actively blocking) as he could a run test or two and build trust between people instead of keeping the distance (and yes all is risk but distance kills everything between people and worst in the long-term).

@k8vsy Agree but think there is some way to go in understanding what means, even as a short for trans___? and then how they feel (more than how we / others seems them aesthetically which is to be fair first sometimes so education needed).

I have a video of someone explaining like why they like versus and it totally made more sense on a level outside of seeing them as anything as cross-dresser or anything. Just plainly and slowly they explained how they see it but covered why someone would prefer 'Xbox' over 'PlayStation' because of the controller - kind of video as a mini format.

Seeing a man or woman dress or have lots of make up / attire even without can be confusing so this is from a 'new to this' perspective if people are going to see / be any different as the eye see first, especially in uneducated people...

"Trans rights are human rights." is good but just in general doesn't go far enough somehow almost in what trans is and even without an prejudice at all - just what is it?.

Another way I just thought of is seeing new evolution of human as the series where one Xmen (meaning Xmankind) is looking at another Xmen as new / weird / enemy / not sure how to co-relate... So in the movie sense can means something if people know the movies and struggles between them)...
