A buddy gifted Mindustry to me, so I'm likely going to play a few multiplayer sessions with my friends in the coming week(s).

It's sorta a Factorio lite. Less micromanaging, but more enemy invasions. It's actually a freeform tower defense game.

Considering I'm the slow backbone builder, it's a good idea to send my buddies to the front where they can build the turrets and defenses while I make sure the production lines are there. :P

@freemo Oh and that movie with the (fake) Italian stuff was a comedy. Considering my bro laughed his ass off, I think the artistic integrity was alright and mission was accomplished, heh.

@freemo I can safely say the subtitles are definitely not universal. Not even within the same series, or even seasons. One might spell a name a certain way in episode 1.. and in episode 2 suddenly it's a bit different. THAT is annoying. And this was on Netflix.

@freemo Right, shirt pockets I can see this being useful at. I don't use shirt pockets, nor have I any, so yeah for me it'd not be as handy.

@freemo Well, I've read adventure books as teenager, and some movies used a flashlight for the SOS signal. Panic Room comes to mind, for example.
It's probably not as uncommon as you'd think. ;)

And if you see subtitles that doesn't care about spoilers and timing... that broadcaster / publisher chose the cheapest subtitler they could hire. Happens often enough, sadly.

Of course, I wouldn't always be able to gauge the quality, being deaf myself.. So I'm at the mercy of the ableist hearing culture. :P

Sometimes there are advantages. Like in the movie someone speaks Italian, and it gets straightly translated in the subtitles. Gives us some different perspective than the people who don't have subtitles turned on and who don't know Italian. ;) I saw a movie like that once with my bro and he had to laugh his ass off. For me it was uh... a normal movie, for him it was extra funny hearing Italian and reading the translations. :P

Of course, they can be lazy and do '[Speaks Italian]' instead... in those cases I sometimes wish to read the actual Italian words, so that I maybe could pick up some context there.

I saw The 6th Sense in the cinemas with normal translated subtitles. I didn't quite understand that movie.
A few years later I watched that movie again on DVD, with closed captioning this time. I could understand the movie 100% and was way more impressed because I could pick up all the nuances thanks to the closed captioning.

In general I find BBC movie subtitles to be of good quality.

Dutch ones are slowly getting there, but aren't perfect yet.

And the Dutch subtitles for the general Dutch audience (translated text, not closed captioning) usually doesn't include the music lyrics, so those music scenes are damn boring for me. :(

@CSB Not anymore. Brexit made sure of that. The UK government was very adament about no freedom of movement. It goes both ways and the EU simply obliged.

@freemo Heh, that doesn't sound like the convenience and size of a foldable knife to me. My pockets generally aren't that deep. :D

@freemo How does it give you the size of a foldable knife while still being a fixed blade? Unless the knife as a whole is even smaller than a normal foldable knife?

Spain allows entry of all EU citizen. Yes, that's normal because of Schengen acquis, which is basically a contract that EU-members have made with each other to allow for freedom of movement within the EU.

2:
Spain refuses entry to Brits who don't own residency permit. Yes, and? Brits aren't part of the EU anymore. So it's up to Spain how to deal with them, they don't have that fun contract.

@thor Yeah, in Dutch it'd be plakken with a sticker, since lijmen is deliberately an act of putting glue on it and then sticking it on somewhere. With a sticker that part is already done, so we plak it. The English paste then isn't totally 100% the same.

@thor I think it's similar to the English 'paste' and 'glue'. You're not going to paste a vase together, but glue it. But you can easily paste a piece of paper to somewhere.

@thor Actually, we know 'lijmen' as verb too. But plakken is more common for stuff like paper and such. As kids we learn plakken before lijmen too, so it's the easiest word.

@freemo Granted, not /hearing/ in my case. But seeing the pattern I'd recognize it.
