When it comes to Duolingo, language teachers have very mixed opinions ranging from being a very effective learning tool to the most wrong way of learning a language.
What do you think?

I see that people with hearing aids are kind of panicky about their hearing aids.. There's someone at my place now who's slightly hard of hearing, so she's got hearing aids. When I needed her to help me a little bit with something outdoors, she was like nonono, it's raining and my hearing aids shouldn't get wet!

I said there was a simple solution then, just take them off for a bit. Oh nonono, she couldn't possibly do that. They need to stay on!

Wtf? They're just hearing aids, man. It's not like your life depends on them. I'm frigging deaf, I'm living proof that not being able to hear isn't going to hurt you. Let alone not being able to hear for 5 minutes. :P

I kind of remember this bit from my own past when I still wore hearing aids. 90% of my time was spent worrying if the battery was still full enough for me to hear something. Fucking things, I should've gone fully deaf sooner.

I've played a few more hours of Horizon Zero Dawn and decided to advance some more with one of the main questlines. Wow, I'm still trying to digest what I've just learned from that in-game's history. Let's say that there are some parallels with the current day's world. :P

The game crashed to desktop at a very nice time, pretty much right after I finished this large quest chain. So yeah, time to call it a night. ;) I'll continue with a different main questline tomorrow.

What I've at least learned so far:
We really need to be careful with AI.
We also need to get rid of idiot billionnaires and big corps before they ruin humanity.
In other words: Nothing new. :P

Oh right, Xmas season is over. Time to take off my santa hat and be my usual self again. *Changes avatar*

I do need a haircut eventually because my hair is pretty much as in this picture. :P

I suppose I could do this today too.

- Tested negative! Yay, I have no excuse anymore for doing nothing. :P
- Cleansed litterbox.
- Sweeped the garden and filled the bin.

The only reason I'm taking breaks from Horizon Zero Dawn is because of CTDs. :P

Fiiiiiiine, I'll grab something to drink now, stupid game!

Playing Horizon Zero Dawn definitely is not a relaxing experience for me. Sneaking, fighting, sneaking, making sure there are no baddies around, regularly checking the Focus, sneaking some more...

Man, I love those games but they make me tense!

Neat, Valve keeps growing. Over 10 million gamers played games at the same time last weekend.

If enough people learn how to do something, it protects those that don't know how to, this is known as nerd immunity

People are like "why use the #favorite button if it doesn't boost it algorithmically?" and it's like, I don't know about any of you, but it makes me feel happy when someone favorite's something I say.

So from my perspective, you have a button whose sole purpose is that when you press it you could make someone feel a little happy.

Why wouldn't you press that button as much as you can?

What's the story of you coming to Fediverse? How did everyone ended here?

Managed to get a mount now...

And of course I won't use it because it's pretty hard to be stealthy while riding on a big noisy mount. :P

So far I treat Horizon Zero Dawn a bit the same as Skyrim questing-wise... avoid the main quest as long as possible until you run out of side-quests. 😋

There's a difference.. you can actually run out of side-quests in HZD! No endless radiant questing system here. ;)

Graphics-wise this game's gorgeous. I just wish the FOV could be a bit bigger.

Woh, nice. A buddy gifted me Horizon Zero Dawn... but I can't install it because I have no disk space available! 😋

I guess I need to figure out what to remove. Why do those games need so many GBs... :P

I wish the episodes were not so short, and that the 2nd season had more episodes.

But The Way of the Househusband is still hilariously ridiculous.

It's OK to refer to T-Shirts by their long names, Tyrannosaurus Shirts. Short arms, you know.

Saying not to bother with the favourite button on mastodon because it doesn't affect any algorithm is like saying not to say thank you to someone because no one else will hear.

Stop thinking in those old social media ways of engagement and visibility and algorithms and reach and audience and start thinking about being social.

I STILL have a spreadsheet full of #Steam #game keys (all legit!) and giving them away isn't just for Christmas any more.

I'm NOT doing this to get new followers. You DON'T need to follow me to get a key. This is about generosity when the world could really use some. The only thing I'd ask you to follow is the Wheaton rule: "Don't be a dick".

To avoid keyfarmers and resellers, I have some guidelines, though.

1. No new accounts. Sorry. You've got to have been here on Mastodon & obviously human; ie. no keyfarmers (If I don't know you, I'm checking profiles).

2. One game per person, but please pick your top three preferred games that you want to play.

3. First in, first served. If your first preference is gone by the time I get to you, that's why there's a 2nd & 3rd preference.

4. *DM* me with the row number, name, and preference order of the three games (my DMs are open)

Green: My keys
Blue: Keys donated by @McCovican.
Orange: Keys donated by @tojosan

Game listed multiple times = multiple keys.

We've given away ~100 games now, and I'll be adding new keys as I get them.

If you don't mind boosting this post; this is my small way of trying to make the world & Mastodon a nice place to be.

An irregular reminder that calling this place "Mastodon" has a bit similar energy as saying "I just sent you a GMail."

"Fediverse" (or "fedi") is a better term.

Mastodon is just one of many software projects that talk to each other to create this multi-instance social network:

(kudos to @axbom for this fantastic infographic!)

There are blogs, Reddit-like communities, video instances and many more, all part of fedi.
