@davoloid dont worry about polling, the server can handle it and you get rate limited if its too excessive anyway.

Thanks for maintaining it until now. It has been one of my favorite features. It would be nice if there was a way to automate it so it doesnt require someone to manually update it (assign random colors and such)

What cant be done with additive tech these days? Seems like everything (though some areas are quite new)... One company is even working to make a whole rocketship out of additive tech.

@PhDMarie

hahaha

Im reluctant to fix it in our code because its a long process and ill have to reverse it once/if the service comes back up... if you wait a few days it might resolve itself, if not ill eventually just axe it from the code.

re: A FOSS dating site that aparently exists

@cwebber@octodon.social Alright, thanks for your response.

@Pat

It is almost certainly the ticker's domain not resolving which gets you stuck on DNS resolution until it timesout.

@bonifartius

@PhDMarie

It appears it is related to the ticker being down (thats an external service). if you switch to a non-ticker theme it should be ok.

@Pat

re: A FOSS dating site that aparently exists

@cwebber@octodon.social If I may ask, less safe in what way? Specifically in the context of you being trans and how they might respond to that, or something else? Feel free not to answer of course, just curious.

@Pat

My guess it is the issue with the tickers, the domain is probably down so its stuck trying to resolve it. does the new theme have tickers?

Editing posts is sometthing i really want. Mostly for fixing all my damn typos.

@WhatYouMcCallit @trinsec @JoshuaACasey

One user, @Pat said the server is a bit sluggish for him today, but its fast for me.

Anyone else out there seeing a slow response from the server?

@Pat Seems to be ok for me, let me ask the server to see if its just you...

@obi

A few things actually. @trinsec and I recently discussed it and saw a few things we really want. Post translation was very appealing, as was being able to properly edit posts.

As a fork our version doesnt track mainstream anymore. So it is not an indication that we are "behind". We take in features and bug fixes piecemeal.

That said there are some new features we have yet to pull into our fork. We are actively working on that now. I am trying to hire a developer to help me and have one who is interested (a mastodon dev).

Qoto != Goto
Yet, when first I glanced at Qoto, I saw Goto, that infamous statement responsible for mountains of spaghetti code. I then saw what it really stood for and immediately signed up.

Qoto, to me, means to learn or teach ourselves. How else really? Watching or hearing do not quite measure up to reading, especially physical books that you hold. In bed, paperbacks are preferred; hardcovers can be dangerous if you’re drowsy.😩

The best way I found to see if I’ve learned something from reading is to write down a synopsis. Not so easy. How about writing something original? I have great admiration for all writers of: , stories, , cook books, text books, technical specifications, how-to books, etc. etc. I’d go out on a limb and say, the art of writing is significantly more difficult than either creating a painting or composing a piece of music. Please note that I said art, not science.

In this internet age, much of our reading is in snippets. TL;DR
So, here’s a poll for the longest time you’ve spent reading in one sitting recently. (excepting this toot)
