Interesting, apparently about half of the fediverse are people in their 40s and 50s.

Dr. Chris Chouinard is doing some interesting work on ion mobility-mass spectrometry for a wide range of applications from to . He is also using predictive computational approaches to be able to detect structures of compounds that don't even exist yet!

One user, @Pat said the server is a bit sluggish for him today, but its fast for me.

Anyone else out there seeing a slow response from the server?

Qoto != Goto
Yet, when first I glanced at Qoto, I saw Goto, that infamous statement responsible for mountains of spaghetti code. I then saw what it really stood for and immediately signed up.

Qoto, to me, means to learn or teach ourselves. How else really? Watching or hearing do not quite measure up to reading, especially physical books that you hold. In bed, paperbacks are preferred; hardcovers can be dangerous if you’re drowsy.😩

The best way I found to see if I’ve learned something from reading is to write down a synopsis. Not so easy. How about writing something original? I have great admiration for all writers of: , stories, , cook books, text books, technical specifications, how-to books, etc. etc. I’d go out on a limb and say, the art of writing is significantly more difficult than either creating a painting or composing a piece of music. Please note that I said art, not science.

In this internet age, much of our reading is in snippets. TL;DR
So, here’s a poll for the longest time you’ve spent reading in one sitting recently. (excepting this toot)

I thought it would be nice to start my Mastodon adventure with a (what a lovely adventure into cuteness this hashtag is). This is Jess, my family's eldest dog. Her hobbies are splashing in puddles and playing fetch with every toy imaginable.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

FYI to all my Electronics people out there.

Did you know you can represent capacitance and inductance with a complex number and by doing so you would incorporate ESR (equivalent series resistance) into your equations. Essentially you dont have to model with idealized components and add in the parasitics manually, you can add the parasitics directly into the capacitance or inductance of your components!

See the following equation in my blog and the subsequent explanation if you want some further details and examples: jeffreyfreeman.me/an-indepth-l

Hi folks, I really enjoy Mastodon. It does remind me of the olden days of #irc and the #BBS era (in a good way).

I teach computer engineering technology at the University of Kentucky. I'm originally from #Germany.

@freemo I've served on several senior membership elevation panels. It's still a great accomplishment. Congrats again! #IEEE truly is a great organization.

Folly gets rather excited when someone is about to walk in the door, so excited she can almost fly!

@freemo Congratulations!! Remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Abuse it wisely.

It appears I am going to be made a Senior Member of the IEEE (the highest level one can achieve)... Cool!

@Geothinker @freemo

I am not very active. I used to do public service for bike rides, marathons, etc. Was Montgomery County ARES Emergency Coordinator for a year a decade or so ago. Never got into HF despite my Extra license.
