I read somewhere just now that it's useful to post additional information about oneself. So, I'm:

the daughter of one of the early nuclear engineers. He specialized in materials research for shielding suitability;
70 years old;
retired from a healthcare system after 40 years of employment with them, the last 20 years were in IT;
The proud mother of a mathematics in a Denver university who is also invilved with the LGBTQ community;
fond of #sci fi;
also watch extended versions of #lotr every year;
former mother of a bushbaby, who passed in 1971;
definitely left of center;
a voter;
getting solar panels in February;
a fugitive from Texas currently in Albuquerque, NM;
fond of all animals, used to be the neighborhood snake wrangler;
the daughter of a natural history devotee;
a voracious reader;
the wife of a fine arts scholar, who has read me to sleep every night for 24 years - all of the major classics and many of the minor ones (I got the liberal arts education that I had missed as a science student);
a terrible housekeeper, with an even worse house husband;
glad to be alive even though that might change any day with the current political disaster.

This seems like an appropriate first comic for mastodon.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

I took time to hug and assure my wife @mikmaqpeek it wasn't her coughing that had me up at various times last night. It was being bossed around and told what's-what, being complained at and grumbled to. Some people's puppies!

Here’s my #introduction. In my professional life as an #astronomer and #ResearchSoftwareEngineer I work on novel instrumentation for #astronomy, including imaging #stars using #opticalinterferometry, and #exoplanet discovery. My research involves coding in #C and #python. My favourite text editor is #emacs. In my spare time I enjoy #reading, #cooking and #cricket.

Whilst I’m hard at work, Folly is also taking her job as head of security very seriously, keeping a careful eye out the window and ensuring any passing dog walkers, delivery drivers or neighbours are properly scared away 🐶 #dogsofmastodon #dogs #jackrussell

Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
