A Summer Story of Alan

In the summer of 1973 I was staying on my father’s ferryboat the Vallejo in Sausalito, and he was living at Druid Heights up on Mount Tamalpais high above San Francisco Bay. Each weekday he would either come down to the boat to get the mail, or I would drive it up the hill to the redwood water-tank library that had been converted into a comfortable place for him to work and write.

One day he thought he’d come down the hill but he still hadn’t shown up by 11, and so I gave a call to see if I should bring the mail up. He said: “Oh yes, please— I became caught up in painting out on the deck, you must see!” Very curious now, I headed up the hill.

When I arrived he was sitting outside on the deck surrounded by long strips of rice paper weighted down with round stones, painting kanji characters with a coarse brush and black ink. With smooth strokes characters would appear, but the brush was also picking up the wood grain from the deck below, mapping its textures in what he described in his book on the Tao as li, or organic pattern.

He offered me the brush and I tried a few strokes, and then he did some more, and I’d never seen him happier or more engaged in the moment. After a while we hung the gorgeous strips with *those* textured characters
from the shelves in the library to fully dry, and he made us good green tea.

A few weeks later my father left on what would be his final lecture tour, and as he passed through more than twenty airports over the next two months I could see that day stayed with him reflected in the recurrent Taoist themes of li and tzu jan - organic pattern and nature: of itself so- heard by his audiences along the way.

METHODOLOGY - EASY WHEN YOU TRY OR ADAPT YOUR OWN WAY

Video says to me / sends the message :

The idea with this video is:

- something unlikely is possible
(once you know how or just try)

- others can follow good methodology

- people (and dogs!) can do it in a different way but can achieve the same result
( like the second dog who jumps on fence in different way, both get the result done according to their own speed and ability)

You get the idea - we can find good ways. And not just escaping but working together after escaping or after the first phase think about the next / pre-plan.

1 Apples -> gatehr / cut best -> (bad goes to compost -> wheelbarrow to field for bees / wasps / wildlife)

2 Apple pieces -> tall jar for mixer

3 Apple = Puree (goes to funnel)

4 Apple = Put in juice bottles and the fridge (add water before otherwise too thick, even some honey for sweetening.)

Q. I don't have bottles!
A. I reused and got empty containers from supermarket bin / asking someone on ground level

BEING JUDGED (ADVICE + TIPS):

- Remember it takes skill to judge someone. Not everyone has it.

- Judging purely on someone else's advice is inaccurate / unreliable / limited

- First sight is always wrong (not enough information)

- If you ask only certain questions then you mostly get those types if answers back (this is can be inhibiting like tunnel vision

- Judging people by the job isn't always what they wanted to do... people perhaps couldn't really choose or customise their job.

- It takes time, quick-judgement is always limited and things have many more contexts... although do keep it mind and do expect more time to show more angles.

- Everyone swims well depending on the waters and people they swim with... your questions or the environment is also unavoidably part of that.

- One way could be to judge and keep judging in small parts but relaxing as you go along!

- Ask people what they prefer to talk about if things are not working out.

If you want practice being asked but not judged then let me know.

Things like this are good practice and I used to stick things like this on the wall to encourage testing the ideas with people or talk about different situations.

It's my way when I shared a flat to see people say "that's interesting... strange to me...etc",

I'd wait till people asked a bit :]

FOOD AS A MANIPULATION

Food is a TOOL for catching people as well as mice... CATCHING PEOPLE
(WHETHER IGNORANT / UNTRAINED OR INNOCENT MICE)

Anyone that goes only for the food (or money for food) only is not realising how important the "WHO" is feeding us"

Because people are sure to be manipulated and eventually trapped. There is more than just taking and even while you might not avoid banks or supermarkets or anyone in between- do realise this simplified mechanism:
FOOD / MONEY = MANIPULATION = TRAP

Shocking perhaps but NO LESS REALITY - MONEY IS USED TO HUNT PEOPLE else give them incentives (which is quite the same).

I personally wouldn't want myself or children to be in this position or 'dancing for their dinner' so that's why I show you.

CHALLENGE / HOMEWORK:
I'll take suggestions how to let mice live (but also how to let people live too, because people above you see people as mice who are only good if they build empires / profit structures for them. It's a hard one both as mice around my house or as people in the world! Yes let them live or have some kind of kinder death / kinder options!

I advise you talk endlessly the rest of your life about letting people live otherwise always someone is going to be chasing another person.

Hope you get the right message even after initial emotional thoughts - it's about the long-term consideration not the "i-only-follow" and "money is ok" mentality which 100% will get you in trouble and traps. So that solution quite solves many others or you can solve it another way but must come back to this and the picture.

Thank you for your attention / Letting others live... not hunting / profit-infused relationships.

Gardening / Food Picture

...Garden Apples (loads still left) blended and funneled into juice bottles.

I see this as the right kind of ammunition against accelerating effects of supermarkets and price wars on us (or simply maximizing each of our habits purely for profit).

Bottles go for a good few days minimum (I can drink 1 in a day) and last a few weeks if add sugar or honey.
Needs releasing of extra air once in a week at least. ^_^
And even when 'bad' / oxygenated at top, is still bearable / mixable / eatable with rest!

SYSTEM - WHAT IS A SYSTEM

A system is patterns of a mentality...

(In the political sense...)

and through that all is iterated / carried out within it.

A lot like a binary system also which people can't see when PEOPLE control computers.

It's many more things than just that and more about people + system that makes it so powerful and magnifies the will of any small group... but when people say money is not political and can't see who it comes from but at the same time don't trust BANKS and GOV it's dis-empowering to them to say that in one sentence... "money is ok" ?? <--- It's a paradox somewhat unless you agree banks and gov are ok!

To continue to use for "change" is like the hamster running in a wheel thinking it's getting further.

Most people don't see how something is pushed IS POLITICAL or biased.. WHO CAN BLAME THEM THEY / WE ALSO SIMPLY DON'T SEE IT behind closed doors, UN-transparent mini-systems, full of mumbo-jumbo and middle-men etc..

No wonder - they didn't see that so it's probably ok / not manipulated at all... right? !

Any system is political or had some ideas behind it and MUCH of what people can't see is like a central place doing it's things while people are busy working!

It's all ' hidden ' until they read Wikipedia or someone says what things really are and how it started, what it's really for...

believe me when I say peaceful work hasn't been on agenda for years (because it wouldn't pay!)

Anyone and everyone being more peaceful people would do less work / less productivity according to Goverment's and their GDP view of it's people and their own thoughts would come to the surface politically (if they had time peacefully). And less tax for less work etc is 'not good'.
You see the circle and what a certain mentality wants, and that's the baseline.

ROOTS of cheating people is:

Anything behind your back and far away is problem when it comes to governments cheating people.

Anything in secret, off the record.. etc is all a problem.

It changes the whole productivity of your work like a hole in your pocket. And gives it to err.. actually who knows who it's given to, just money is somehow spent and somehow problems continue.
