On the upside, India looks like it's doing a pretty good job to make deaf and hearing people equal. They'll just all end up deaf eventually. 😋

@mur2501 Probably a smart move. ;) Although good ear protection can do wonders. There are also hearing people visiting deaf discos.
@mur2501 Mmm, maybe you can search for 'deaf disco music'. It's usually music with certain clear beats that deaf people dance on. The kind of music usually used in deaf discos (yeah, that exists. Yes, it's loud. Yes, you should wear ear protection if you don't want to join the deaf club. :D)
@mur2501 Sure? There are a lot of deaf people enjoying music. The thing they can't do is listening to lyrics, or feeling the high tunes (guitars, violin, singing, etc).
The other day I helped my boss figure out which music pieces to use for the theater play at the school I work on. I just put my hand on the speaker.

@lydiaconwell Not really. If you check your notification, then you go 'back', it brings you to the spot where you left off. I can deal with this easily.

Arguably, an image unseen is *also* not funny. As is artwork unseen.
The alt text isn't meant to replace the originals - it augments them so that people who can't participate in the original experience aren't entirely excluded.
A deaf person can watch and enjoy a movie using subtitles, even if the experience isn't quite as good.
If you see a group speaking a foreign language and they all laugh uproariously, having someone tell you "that guy made a very funny joke about a political leader you've never heard of" is a lot better than sitting there wondering what is going on.
And if you're experiencing mastodon via braille, a post saying "Elon after he has a poll that goes the wrong way" then nothing isn't as good as getting "popular meme showing pikachu with a surprised face" so at least you know what the joke was about.
It's about inclusivity. It's not meant to be perfect.
