@ywlebo Sorry i never greeted you, just seeing you now. Welcome to the family, great to have you.
I have a passion for neuroscience myself (though i set more on the side of trying to replicate neuroscience in algorithms)... I really look forward to seeing your posts!
@freemo I wouldn't support the abolition of rights, but I would prefer to live in that situation over one where we still have rights but live under a dictator. Mainly because I believe that a free and equal democracy provides the best chance for the restoration of rights when they are taken away.
In other words, I believe a true democracy lacking rights has a tendency to mend its attitude towards rights to appease voters.
Whereas in the flip side, an authoritarian regime with rights, those rights are likely on their way out.
So, that's why I see democracy as a foundation for equal rights: We the people demand them.
@freemo I think it's more professional and polished if you are looking at the camera. Having one photo so different from the others is visually jarring.

Very excited to announce that I am looking for #PhD students to work with @ umich CSE. If you're interested in #causality + #machinelearning and would like to spend your PhD years NOT losing half your income on rent, I strongly encourage you to apply to our PhD program
So, we finally got to adding me to the team's page of the company. I kinda like my picture there but I fear it might not fit in well with the others... thoughts?
@TheKinrar So I've been following this bot which takes data from instances.social (which you maintain) and 40 minutes ago it showed a huge spike in users and instances.
Me and some others are trying to figure out if it's a bug with the bot, if there is a sudden influx of spammers, or if instances.social suddenly added a ton of new Mastodon instances that weren't previously tracked. Let me know as soon as possible.
A battery filled with algae is somehow managing to power this computer for months: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2319584-computer-powered-by-colony-of-blue-green-algae-has-run-for-six-months/
No-one's quite sure what's going on. Possibly the algae is serving as the medium catalyzing the interaction between the anode and cathode in the battery.
Except research shows the anode isn't degrading, which suggests ...
... the *algae* is producing the electrons.
Some thoughts on this in my blog post here, item 6: https://clivethompson.medium.com/lavaforming-ai-writes-heavy-metal-and-drones-that-deliver-hamburger-helper-59b9bcfda9a8
Somewhere, someone finally made this and I think it's beautiful: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4687836
@jellycrystals No worries, I was new once too, and still far from perfect.
If you ever need ink, pen, or writing advice hit me up.
Sheen is a quality of ink where it has a glossy shine to it, and when light reflects off the glossy surface the color of the reflected light is different than the color of the ink itself. It is very special and only a few inks do it and furthermore you need the right paper for it to show.
Attached is an example of sheen, notice the golden color on the word "things".. that color isnt there its a reflection and it goes away as you tilt the paper and shows across the whole text at the right angle.
I also included a different ink with sheen on my name. Both pictures are the same instance just held at different angles so you can see how the sheen changes with angle.
My ink arrived! Now I just have to use up the ink in the cartridges so I can then start using the converters in my fountain pens.

@kjr Hey I am in central israel as well... I will laugh if your in the same town as me :) small world.
Well, lets see if they care anymore if I expose this shit on twitter. If you have an account there feel free to show some support:
This in your profile made me curious:
"Pro-Democracy. Pro-Rights. Pro-Freedom. In that order."
So if it is democratically decided to abolish fundemental rights, you would support it since democracy is more important than rights?
Not trying to give you a hard time, just a fair question about your stance.
