>"Hi blobs :blobcathuggies:"

Hi.

(I'm not actually a blob (on the blob site), but I'm an ally.)

@johnabs @lucifargundam @trinsec

I just checked the server rules, and it doesn't appear that making fun of people with a lisp is against the rules. (But it's still not nice.)

I remeber not so long ago, comedians and others would publicly make fun a Barbara Walters' lisp. They would never do that today.

(ps - I'm sure I've posted a lot of stuff here that could be considered inappropriate myself.)

@johnabs @lucifargundam @trinsec

> " I wasn't expecting this throwback from @Pat 's accusation of me being a bot XD"

I don't even remember that. Now I am 97.8% sure that you are not a bot and 99.3% sure that I'm not a bot.

(I won't report the lisp jokes, but I think they are inappropiate.)

I have not heard any reliable source that says that that number in overstated. (I have heard some say that it is understated and some say that it is overstated, but without supporting data.

Ich habe keine verlässliche Quelle gehört, die besagt, dass diese Zahl übertrieben ist. (Ich habe einige sagen hören, dass es untertrieben und andere sagen, dass es übertrieben ist, aber ohne unterstützende Daten.

And here's the qualitative summary...

The purpose of the war was to crush al-Qaeda.

Bush - started the war
Obama - killed Osama bin Laden
Trump - surrendered to the Taliban
Biden - won the war by killing the remaining leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman al Zawahiri

Study "Jim Crow" laws and also the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

@peterdrake

I know that was a joke, but seriously, when Apple was developing their device, they started trying to design a tablet computer first. But most people at the time could not imagine why they would need a computer that they could carry around with them.

So Jobs got the idea to market the computer as a phone, because everybody knew what a phone was and the advantages of having a mobile phone (called a cellphone at that time).

When it first came out, I thought it was a stupid move to do that because it completely downplayed the power of the device, but of course I was total wrong and selling it as a phone was the correct marketing move to make.

I think young people today associate the term "phone" with those tiny computers they carry around rather than "the telephone".

@Acer

Do you want to understand that specific video, or the topic generally?

Here are some ideas for security hardware, etc. that will insure privacy:

-Big locks
-Shotgun
-Window bars
-Pitbull
-Good neighbors

@icedquinn

perhaps it was designed as an empathy lesson.

@peterdrake

I wasn't aware of that character (or most other Marvel characters). Just looked her up now.

Some people pronounce it as: hair - is

...but that's not correct.

(I forgot to label my OP as a joke. My dry humor stikes again!)

Kamala Harris has held public office for many years and has been Vice President for nearly two years now, but some people still can’t pronounce her name properly. Here’s how to properly pronounce her name.

It’s pronounced: har – us, with the emphasis on the first syllable, soft “a”.

(Your welcome)

Maybe they should have been sent with an attachment?

Power grab as in taking away user's freedom to: choose their own init system, or to freely and transparently edit and organize the startup of their systems.

One of the ostensible reasons for systemd was so the system would boot more quickly. But my systems boot up more quickly when I use System V init rather than when I try to use systemd.

I just learned that Anne Heche died a week ago...
-
It appears that she was driving a gas or diesel-powered Mini Cooper Clubman (BMW) when she crashed and the car burst into flames. She sustained severe burns and inhalation injury. Six days later, on Aug. 11, 2022, she was taken off of life support and declared dead.

What a horrible death. When are we finally going to get rid of all these gasoline-powered cars?

Here’s the 911 call (warning, this is very disturbing to listen to)

@Amikke

It's just a f*cking power grab by the developers, with no reason for existing other that that.

Just read that the male lead in this film, Lenny Von Dohlen, died last month after a long illness.
