We have much better cooperation with our neighbours than USA has with theirs.

Look, I'm thinking you're hugely considering this from your American POV. Maybe you're feeling you can get invaded any time, and that every civilian probably should be armed for that eventuality. I'm thinking it's a paranoid way of living.

If we get invaded, the armies are going to be better armed than the civilians, no matter what. It's the era of drones and planes. We have a fairly good air force, a hand gun is going to be a shitty comparison there.

@freemo I have to agree with @mur2501 here. That's not a good enough argument. It's a theory at best.

And precisely to avoid a WWII scenario from happening, we formed the EU. Guns are supposed to be not necessary.

The countries who do have guns are either 1) Countries who are big on hunting (Norway, Finland, even in my country you CAN own a gun but with restrictions), or 2) Countries who have had a difficult past fairly recently (civil wars and such, illegal firearms left over).

You're moving on from 'freedom' to 'necessity' here.

@freemo The Dutch were absolutely not prepared for WWII. Shitty equipment, and not expecting to be invaded at all. We kinda expected a repeat of WWI.

@mur2501 Yeah, well, beyond the VOC I've never really had too much interest in Dutch historical affairs outside of Europe, heh. I'd check this up, but I'll just believe you there (until I'm not so lazy). ;)

@mur2501 I just think English and Dutch probably differ enough because they colonized different regions with similar-ish names.

UK had a long history with India, and NL had a long history with Indonesia.

@mur2501 Then you've got a different definition than we have. If we want to say Indian, it is Indiaas. If we want to say Indonesian it is Indonesisch. If we want to say Indonesian-Dutch, it is Indo.

So our Indo-Chinese restaurants is actually Chinese restaurants with heavy Indo influences. You'd never find this food in China or in Indonesia as it is here. It's totally adjusted to our Dutch taste buds and it is so goddamn delicious.
