@grokmaster It's very easy to form prejudices. It's getting rid of them that's the hard part!
My brain hurts. But I think I'm capable of recognizing most hiragana letters now. Drawing them is a bit a different matter, but the phone apps will likely help me out there. I'll review this randomly over time.
I'll check out this dakuten kana tomorrow. That doesn't look too tough, it looks like hiragana with some little symbols added to change the consonants. I already accidentally got in touch with those via the phone apps, so I kinda know what to expect. Just a matter to memorize which symbol is for what consonant. :P
As a li'l bonus, I've rewatched part of an anime and I could actually spell out most names displayed in Japanese. :D Hell yeah!
@lucifargundam Oh cool. I've been to the dentist about two months ago to fill up a cavity, without needing sedatives. I guess I'm good to go! Bionic arm, here I come! 😋
@freemo That's a very interesting observation that I haven't really thought about at all, but it does make sense. A slight mindfuck since everything's so relative.
@kaidamitsuki Also helps if one is not deaf. I don't think I'd be capable to learn a heavily tonal language.. ;)
@chrism Okay, thanks. Start of numbering is one of the homeboards, got it. I guess I need to pay attention to that next time. For me it is uh... 'decorative' lol. Not good, I know. But I usually start a game knowing which is where, and usually have no numbers in those fancy boards I use (on Steam and on mobile).
Yeah, be sneaky, swap around regularly. 😂
@JonathanMBR A cat's tongue is also rough, is this the case for all felines?
@mur2501 Take care!
@kaidamitsuki Maybe it's a very (not so) subtle hint that your handwriting might need some work? 😋 (I kid, I kid. Unless it's true, of course!)
Yeah, but imagine scanning your receipts? I think it's probably more useful for that use case, people who want to do paperless administration? I can see uses for this. I don't do it, however, so thankfully I don't need it. But I can see people who'd like this feature.
@kaidamitsuki I'm reading https://www.tofugu.com/learn-japanese/ which has (extremely silly) mnemonic stories. I remember the stories more than the actual drawings. 😂 But it does help!
I use their review site as well, which is pretty good for reviewing afterwards. I also have 3 apps on my phone which teaches me how to draw and to remember what those drawings look like. Every bit helps.
I think I'm sticking with those those 30 letters for now until I'm really familiar with them, especially the last 10 I'm extremely shaky on right now. If I /see/ them I'd recognize them, but if you tell me 'ho' or 'na' I will have to think real hard what the symbols are like. I still need to make a comfortable two way street in my brain.
The only disadvantage here is that it's impossible for me to learn how they're pronounced. So I can't really rely on that mnemonic very well 'hey, this is a SIGN but it sounds like SA!'.... I really have to memorize that seperately.
Plus English isn't my native language.... so a 'NU' for NOODLE I really have to remember that the English just cannot spell phonetically. 😋
@chrism Oh... that's always hard to see when the game's already underway... Is there an easy way to spot which way it goes?
In that case I'd do 18->13. Then 8->4.
18 would be safe, one less casualty potential for you. And 8 could be the start of a new dam.
@fribbledom That's why I usually read like 10-20 pages of a book just before zzz. It does help to put your mind away of the current events.
@freemo Same with 'into oblivion'! Let's cut up those carrots into oblivion, alright? ;)
@lupyuen I can totally relate right there. But isn't this the case for about everybody anyway?
@TheBuilder Why? Do you disagree? BRIGHT CONTRASTING COLORS are actually pretty distracting.
@lupyuen
@chrism Mrm. I might go from 13 to 18, and then 24 to 4. That way the amount of lone blues will stay the same and the danger is a bit minimized? What's also possible is 6 to 11 and 24 to 4. 18 to 22 is also doable, mrm. Uhh lessee...
18 to 22, 6 to 11.
@kaidamitsuki Well, at least it does aid with the memorization process like 'wait, that was that one symbol that I had to write in that order'. :P
Remembering 20 hiragana letters now!
Just don't ask me how to spell them. It'll go like this 'That is the cross with a 9 dangling on it. And that one is like a a key. That one would be a lone sideways u.' etc. :P (I'm talking about the su, ki, and tsu here. :P)
@kaidamitsuki Hehehehe, I've never used Evernote that seriously back then. Granted, the OCR part of it is handy, but then so can Google iirc? But I wanted something that could be synced with my NextCloud instead. :)
@chrism Yay! \o/
