@collectedoverspread Heya, I'm also a mastodon.host refugee. So the actual site is returning soon? Goody, then I can put in a proper 'I have moved' notification there once they're back up!

How will we get notified of this? Any reliable source we can check for this?

And welcome to Qoto!

@marathon@mastodon.online

@trinsec You mean with risotto-kind of rice? Agree, it makes it all squishy squashy. Paella should use some more neatly separated rice type

@arteteco THANK YOU! YOU GET IT! That's absolutely my experience!

I've always called risotto a 'failed overcooked rice', because I really don't like the taste that much. If I wanted rice sticking together, I'd have gotten lontong instead, at least that's also kinda dry. :P

@rlamacraft That sounds kind of weird to me, for iOS not to have one. Sounds like there ought to be a stock one in the device at the very least.

Would the above site be of any help at all? I can't check, I'm an Android user.

Paella really shouldn't be made with risotto.

Seriously. 😒

@mur2501 Even better! More space for me!

Though with the climate change I'm sure we'll get warmer eventually, even though we'll get cold feet! :P

@mur2501
Then we'll become a beach resort. :P
I've always wanted a house at the water!

@mur2501
Lessee..

"One-third of the world's exports of chilis, tomatoes and cucumbers goes through the country. The Netherlands also exports one-fifteenth of the world's apples."
Looks like the world decided en-masse to trade through us. We don't farm this. 🌍

"Aside from that, a significant portion of Dutch agricultural exports consists of fresh-cut plants, flowers, and flower bulbs, with the Netherlands exporting two-thirds of the world's total."
Here it looks like we mostly personally export flower-related stuff. 🌷

A little bit back...
"The Dutch rank first in the European Union and second worldwide in value of agricultural exports, behind only the United States"
We're known as a nation of traders since about the 17th century, clearly hasn't changed now. :) 🥈

But it is true. Most of our farmers are creating food for export. That's why we have to import good for us. I'm not sure either where the logic is.

@mur2501
You sure? We export so much that most of the food we eat is imported. :P

@mur2501 Wait, what? We're a garlic exporter? Heh, didn't know that.

@mur2501 We buy garlic in bulbs, there's never green leaves present here. And whole fried garlics is probably a bit too much for me. :D

But I love to have a lot of cloves through a meal! Usually I'd probably add 4 or 5 cloves of garlic here. Now it's 2 very big cloves, I can live with that.

Of course, it does depend on which kind of meal it is. But I'm of opinion it's perfect in paella!

Whew, convinced mom to let me add another clove of garlic. So I sought out the biggest and fattest clove I could find. Just one ain't enough!

@marathon@mastodon.online One of those days we'll probably accidentally uncover one of the Old Ones!

To be fair, I've brought over a bunch of classics as well.

Willow, The Labyrinth, Groundhog Day, and The Man Who Knew Too Little.

Show thread

I've brought over The Hogfather DVDs to my parents. We might be watching that this evening. :P

@mur2501 (With TV cooks I consider this a problem, actually. Since they have an educating factor, and people might think it's normal to throw away that huge chunk of perfectly fine food... But the cooks have to work fast for the TV, so they can't obsess over every part of the food.)

@mur2501 Okay. Over THERE it might be a huge problem. Over HERE companies have to pay for waste, that would include food waste. If they can decrease this, they can earn more. It's an incentive at least.

I've just helped my mother with prepping up some food. She also taught me a thing about food waste with regards to paprika. :P

And I learned that TV cooks are really wasteful. :P
