@gpowerf Man, you must've rented half Santa's sleigh. :P

@freemo You're like those people who sees confirmation of Half-Life 3 in everything.

@freemo
How did something with an abbreviation of NAADC become a norad? 👀

Not that I knew what an NAADC would've been to begin with.

Since I watched Glass Onion yesterday, I found out that it was sorta the sequel to Knives Out. Same detective.

So I thought why not, lemme watch Knives Out today! And so I did!

Oh my.. that was a complete mindfuckery going on, lol. Good one though.

Well, officially when someone quotetoots, and you look at that post from a vanilla server without QT, you'd see it ending in:
QT: -linkhere-

But with the latest Mastodon version, the link seems to be completely stripped off now, meaning that the posts get modified. Looks like Eugen is making his own ActivityPub standards now this way. Nasty... that's even worse than wanting a QT feature as your contents got modified.

@rdaily Shouldn't they be called 'Freedom Fried Onions'? 😋

@josemanuel They have this preconceived idea. You interrupted it. They don't care about what you think and just block you instead.

You were polite but they didn't want to be explained to at all. You can't read that situation (I wouldn't be able to either), so you lose out.

Don't think too much into it I'd say.

@I_Choose_Exile@famichiki.jp

Vanilla Mastodon servers don't have QT. But Misskey servers, some Pleroma frontends, Friendica servers... they all have QT already. And there are a bunch of modified Mastodon servers also having this QT feature. Very many instances on the Fediverse have this already.

It's just mostly Vanilla Mastodon not having this, so I'm not sure what issues people have. Why not move to a server which has it if it is so important?

@obi I just do Merry Xmas. Short, not too much emphasis on 'Christian', but still clearly meaning the same sort of holiday.

@jkr Looks absolutely true.. especially as revenge for having to wear those clothes. 😅

quote tweet stuff

@Russell I think it depends on the instance you're in.

On an instance with quote-toots which won't tolerate harassment, it should easily be reported to cull this behavior.

On an instance which doesn't care about harassment, an absence of quote-toots won't help make it a better instance so it doesn't matter.

To compare Twitter to ALL Fediverse servers is a bit unfair. Every server is different.

That said, this server I'm on already has quote-toots, almost since the beginning of the Fediverse. And all Misskey servers also have quote-posts. They already exists. There are a lot of servers having this already. Just not Vanilla Mastodon.

QT discourse

@ceoln A public timeline is indeed the local and federated timelines.

Glad that my explanation has helped, wasn't sure if I explained it clear enough. :)

But the option is still there so that sometimes I change my responses to followers-only, or even to DM if the situation warrants it. But yeah, when it's a normal response I don't seem to see much difference anymore between public and unlisted.

I just asked Freemo to make sure, yeah.. there is not really a difference between public and unlisted responses. There was some sort of exception with it for subscriptions, but I'm not going to delve there lol.

QT discourse

@ceoln The stuff with 'shown in public timelines' is just for the original post. And the responses by the same user of the original post to their original post. (in an uninterrupted fashion)

- I post something publicly. It gets shown in public timeline.
- I respond to that post, it's public, also shown in public timeline.
- I respond to my own post again, not public, it's not shown in public timeline.
- You respond to that public post. Not shown in public timeline.
- I respond to you. Not shown in public timeline. (the thread was interrupted by your response, so mine is a normal response too)

It's always been like this. :)

And that's why quote-toots are so very useful in bringing attention to a toot. You're posting as an original post with a toot attached to it. That toot will get the spotlight again this way.

QT discourse

@ceoln It's valid for your own posts and uninterrupted responses to your own posts, yes.

But if I respond to you.. this is a public response, but you don't see it appearing in the local timeline, do you?

QT discourse

@ceoln I think my recent response might've explained it somewhat now? :)
