@lydiaconwell I'm not going to pretend watching/reading those things. I watch/read whatever the fuck I like. :P

@maunye It's a commercial company, what do you expect? Democracy isn't usually in it for them. What has my opinion got to do with this?!

@lydiaconwell Dunno. I have both ereader and real books. The real books are nice in a bookcase, but an ebook is simply more convenient.
Grab one with a little backlight option, then it's even more convenient. I still have an old ereader without backlight... but it's still working good so I have no reason to replace it heh. Now if only I'd get back to reading again... but I'm too tired to read so far.

@maunye Why should it be democratic, though? It's not a government, it's a commercial social media company.

@mur2501 I see how it can look like that, but more like a very chipper greeting!

@dosnostalgic Ohh, I remember that. Kinda annoying to play, lol.

@freeschool This was actually my second attempt. First attempt was just trying to connect the new monitor and see if it works. Answer: It didn't work. And considering I didn't have my laptop with me, it was frustrating as I couldn't keep track of my activities.

So after 2 days I returned with a laptop and a lot more fervour. Having a laptop at hand helps a lot since you can look up information easier that way and make notes.

Spent 4 hours troubleshooting dad's computer (well, not the full 4 hours, but I spent 4 hours over at my parents' place in total, including free dinner) to figure out why it wouldn't work with dad's brand new big monitor.

Turns out that I needed to set the monitor from Displayport 1.2 to Displayport 1.1. Of course, the OSD with those settings wasn't even accessible without a working computer attached to it... so glad I brought my laptop along so I could actually get to the monitor's settings.

Couldn't display the full 4K resolution either on his old rig, but so long the aspect ratio was right, 1440p is fine for him. He wanted stuff to be displayed big anyway (scaled up his display by 175% on top of this too).

While I had my laptop around, I also made a shitton of notes about dad's equipment so that I have some reference material at hand next time I need to troubleshoot his PC again. Might need it next time when we go replace his HDD for an SSD.

All in all, the evening ended satisfactory... it's a lot easier to fix stuff if you have a reliable computer next to you. I love my laptop.

@freemo Like cows do with farting all day?

I don't see them getting any thinner... ;)

@FailForward Exactly, but I'm tired of wasting all this paper on just quick calculations and such, which I don't want to store for a while but merely needed to put my train of thought on something physical and then is promptly useless after it's finished. This tablet would be ideal for that purpose.

@FailForward Ooh, searching for 'schrijftablet' on bol.com actually yields very useful and cheap results.. I might highly consider this. Thanks for putting me on the right path. :D

@FailForward Yes, way too expensive. And that's still having a whole computer in it... :)

Something similar to this:
usb.brando.com/e-note-lcd-writ

I guess the more searchable term might be 'writing tablet', hrm.

@FailForward Basically the digital version of an Etch-A-Sketch. ;)

@FailForward I already have a Wacom tablet, but I really mean a simpler one where you draw on it straightly and you see the lines on the tablet. It doesn't need a computer, it's a standalone thing. That'd be handier for a very quick note like doing a little calculation or whatnot.

You know, I wouldn't mind having one of those drawing tablets where you can draw straight on it with a stylus and with the press of a button everything's gone.

Great for temporary notes without having to waste all this paper here...
