Third day in a row now that I have to clean up my cat's mess. It's definitely not going great with him.

@StroomAfwaarts He still eats, but he's not terribly superb at grooming anymore, his fur is kinda matte nowadays. He still tries, he's just not great at it anymore.

He still follows me around, even though he's awfully in the way most of the time. He doesn't take the hint to go aside well anymore.

I'm chatting with my sister who lost her lovely cat a year ago to old age, asking her details about how she'd recognize the moment, what she's done, etc.

My biggest issue with my cat atm is that I can't do much. I can't even help him out with anything. I can only pet him and feed him. I can't check him up myself without ending up all bloodied. Possibly he's having too much pain to allow me to do much with him, but it also means I just cannot help him. Which sucks. Otherwise I could've helped him a little, cleaning him up for example. But now, it's just kinda waiting until the inevitable.

I'm possibly going to the vet tomorrow if I can get an appointment, and it's starting to look more likely that it'll be the last visit.

I mean, I know cats live shorter than us.. but it could end a bit less shitty (including literally), you know? Just very old and tired and just sleeping and that's it. Not suffering like mine does now and needing painstillers every evening.

I hate it that they end up suffering.

@pootriarch
I can't help but think it's either the Swedish Frontier, or you'd have to give it some fake Swedish name like the Final Fromisklad.

I'm kind of hoping at this point he'll show signals soon that he's tired of living, because, well, it's unlikely to improve. I'm also not really getting the idea that he's enjoying his life so very much anymore.

But he still likes to be near me even though I can't cuddle with him anymore for about a year now. And he still enjoys the sunshine while napping. So I can't justify yet to make the big decision unless a vet recommends it or if the situation at home is starting to be too much.

...

Why am I crying now.

@dumdumjobes That 'sucker' part might be a bit too specific. I'm not sure the non-English world would get it. I see that as a lollipop?

Totally tired now, but I have enjoyed the day sauntering at a few markets. I bought a figurine of a feline oozing lots of charm. I also managed to acquire 10 Donald Duck Pockets which I'm going to read soon. 😁

It was actually a nice sunny day for a change after weeks of rain. Delicious!

@dabbling_duck@oldbytes.space Dungeon Hack, that is a name I've not seen in a long time. Played the heck out of it 20+ years ago. :D

So, ich habe irgendwie nie was so richtig hier gepostet...

@peterdrake I personally would probably go Affinity Publisher or depending on design maybe Designer or Photo. But those are the tools I have at my disposal.

@freemo
That's what they said about flying cars. :P

I don't think this is a cop-out, I highly doubt we have the drive to have everything automated like you envision. I highly doubt that humans are willing to accept that kind of large-scale automation. I highly doubt we even have the resources to begin with to automate everything in a few decades. All I see is prototypes, and not even always succesful or even affordable.

No, seriously, I think you're the one out of touch. :P

@jimvernon

@freemo
There are plenty of people who will never have the intellectual capacity to grow beyond a cleaner's job. You're kinda telling them to fuck off here. A no-skill job will always be required somewhere. And I highly doubt they can all be automated. There'll still be plenty of those kind of jobs in a few decades. You're kinda out of touch there.

@jimvernon

@freemo Ah, so your idea is only working with a competent government (which isn't also short-staffed) which can actually check up all companies to make sure everything's done fairly?

Yeah.. good luck, heh.

And examples.. well I've read about the work conditions of Amazon workers, for example. How can that even exist? It'd not be doable here. Not legally.
I assume that the Amazon warehouse conditions are legal because they've been talked about so much, and seemingly haven't improved.

@freemo
Wait, there'll always be a job needing cleaners and suchlike. A fulltime cleaner should be able to have a liveable wage. That's what minimum wage is for.

@freemo

As far as I see it:

(Big) Companies have a lot of power already. Individual workers have considerably less power. Them working together (and forming an union) protects them against the power of companies. Especially big companies.

You're talking about antitrust and such, but how does that protect the workers? Will they even bother with the individual workers? A sole worker doesn't have an army of lawyers behind them to do what is right. An union does.

I only have to look at the USA and see how things are shit for the workers in anti-Union states. How would that get fixed anytime soon? Individual workers can hardly demand improvements like an union can. They just get fired and other victims get hired.

No, somehow I'm really not convinced by your arguments. We've already got running examples of what you think should have been, and we can see it's not really an improvement to those workers there.

@freemo Well, the strikes aren't always about increasing wages, actually. It's also about lowering work pressure and all that. You seem to be focused on price-fixing here.
