@hmblank Lijken me best aardig goede punten die daar aan boord komen. Een stuk genuanceerder in ieder geval.
Apparently using *they* as a singular pronoun (to use instead of *he* and *she*) is hardly a new phenomenon. It dates back to 1375 in written records!
In fact, singular *you* is much more recent! Dating back to the 17th century! 😂
Oh, this quote's fun, and it shows that our gender-related issues has been going on for centuries:
> In 1794, a contributor to the New Bedford Medley mansplains to three women that the singular they they used in an earlier essay in the newspaper was grammatically incorrect and does no ‘honor to themselves, or the female sex in general.’ To which they honourably reply that they used singular they on purpose because ‘we wished to conceal the gender,’ and they challenge their critic to invent a new pronoun if their politically-charged use of singular they upsets him so much.

I'd say it's probably safe to use *they* in general. I do use singular *they* regularly and it's the least fuss imo.
@2ck @lucifargundam
The free entry thing is probably more useful when you have got a fair amount of people participating, more chances on an actual response. And also when the story's indeed more fleshed out and people know what they want to do. And maybe this style on weekends only?
The advantage of the multiple choice one in social media is that people can glance at the story, think for a little bit, and then immediately give an answer. If they see freeform they're like 'Oh, I have to think a lot more.. mm, lemme get back to this later...' and then forget about it. I know that happened to me because I was way too busy, lol.
I can see daily on weekends. Maybe a much lower frequency on weekdays.
@2ck @lucifargundam I think I've seen that bot around, it is a typical oldskool text adventure bot where you have to send comends like 'GO NORTH' and suchlike. I have no desire to interact with it though, I liked the more live and possibly impromptu stuff that you offered us.
I did use the poll notification's threaded connection to the next text. Maybe you could also reserve a specific hashtag for it in case people lose the thread somehow.
I guess being sure to have the next one ready when the poll expires helps a lot in keeping track so you can immediately click on the notification and go to the next post that way to continue the adventure.
@2ck Oh, and I think the last action was way too freeform, best stick to a select few choices presented like before.
@2ck I enjoyed it for a while but it got a bit too fast for me because I was pretty much busy IRL.
@Coffee This would be wonderful!
@sean Oh, looks like I'm already on there. And that group is pretty much dormant, heh.
@Amikke Ah ok. ;)
@Amikke Heh, why would front-end development be the bottom of the barrel? If any, it's probably much harder because it needs to be intuitive to the end-user so that they're not smashing buttons like a damn savage in order to get something done.
@stux I would love to see that thing landing.
From a large distance, of course.
I'm trying to read *De moordclub (op donderdag)* which is a Dutch translation of *The Thursday murder club*. It feels like a slog to me because the translation is a bit too... stiffly following the original English text, which completely ruins the Dutch reading flow. I mean, while reading what those people in the book are saying to each other I can think of a thousand other words I'd have used that'd make more sense for them to say. I even shook my head at one convo, which is bad mojo.
In my opinion, a translator should feel comfortable to go out of bounds a little with the translation so long the original idea is still intact but where the reading feels more natural to the language used. Right now I don't have the illusion that the translator has actually read the book and is trying to think themselves in the roles of those characters. It feels very jarring because the English style of writing and word choices doesn't always fit the Dutch flow. It is just annoying.
My mom's bought this Dutch version (which I'm trying to read), and I wonder if she's going to enjoy the story as much as I did with the English version.

@2ck Sounds like Gattaca, good movie.
@lucifargundam KILL IT WITH ICE!
@urusan Well, I did expect an answer in the fractions. ;)
@urusan And how many trees is that?
@datenteiler It kind of does make sense to me, yes.
@Placholdr Could go Sublime.
