@em Well you asked why I joined mastodon (or rather, the Fediverse), and not doing a comparison would be difficult if that was one of the major reasons to join.

I didn't join qoto.org at first. I joined mastodon.social first, but I decided that 500 characters wasn't quite nice enough.

Then I joined mastodon.host which had 2000 characters (later 4000), but it crashed very hard after 2 years and couldn't be recovered.

So I had to search for a new server, but I didn't want 500 characters. At least 2000 would be nice. Qoto.org was one of those with more than 2000 characters and the theme was fine to me and I liked the extra features.

So, I chose qoto.org.

@em I joined Mastodon like 4-5 years ago. I wanted something better than Twitter and not be limited to 200 characters.

65k characters is a lot better. ;)

@jasonetheridge That would be a good step, that people actually learn to think. So far most educational systems are set up so that they are ready for the job market asap. I think we need to transcend a little bit beyond that.

Home is people you follow and your responses.
Local is everybody on the server you're on posting publicly.
Federated is all the other servers this server's connected to, it can get quite spammy.

Hope that Ivory for iOS supports some of the extra features this server has to offer. For example 65k characters instead of the default 500.

I've blocked those too. There are many instances meant for trolling. Thankfully the users can block whole servers so that's neat. :)
