@Samkupar
It's a bit non-intuitive at first. When you search, unless you're searching for a full user name (like mine, @jump_spider@goto.org), you can only search for what your instances *knows* about. So if you're looking for a particular hashtag or someone, and your instance hasn't federated with any toots that have it, then it won't appear. When searching a full username though, which includes the instance domain, the search knows to try to federate directly with that instance.

Today we announce the formation of the Bytecode Alliance, a new industry partnership coming together to forge WebAssembly’s outside-the-browser future by collaborating on implementing standards and proposing new ones. Our founding members are Mozilla, Fastly, Intel, and Red Hat, and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more.

It's fun to visit Castro district if you're any kind of queer. But my second time there, all I got was, Holy crap, this city is the definition of gentrification without the infrastructure improvements

My note about San Francisco is I guess tangential; it's a tech dystopia not because of the active surveillance but because if you don't work in tech, then you're either homeless or a part of servant class that works for the tech elites
@freemo i must say, you made a big mistake.
@digitaldutta
Kind of reminds of San Francisco. I went on a day trip to there recently and the number of ads specifically targeting tech companies was bewildering. One giant billboard for Twilio literally just said, "Ask your developer"
For todays #FollowFriday I'm going to do something a bit different. We have a lot of new users, one of the biggest surges we have seen in a while. As such a lot of new users are looking for high quality, long-standing, accounts to follow. Similarly many of the new users need some help getting attention and making new friends.
As such I am going to do this #FF in a few parts. One for old users I have mentioned in previous posts, as well as some of the new users who have been making quality posts and been active for at least a week now. Hopefully this will be more helpful.
Also a section for some bots might be useful.
I will use a persons profile description here as I dont want to misrepresent anyone.

Here's the book I mentioned above, and it's a great read. "Codes, Cyphers and Secret Languages", by Fred B. Wrixon.
Some really low price used copies on Alibris in USA, if anyone wants one.

I definitely find it useful! You're the second person to suggest building out the intro, so that's definitely on my todo list now. I also like the idea of discussing how essential encryption is to online communication.
I want to avoid too much detail in this initial Part 1, but I definitely want to talk about instant messengers in a follow up article!
@freemo
@khird
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! I should definitely include a caveat at the beginning of the post that I know just enough to be dangerous to my own security, haha.
I'll definitely incorporate distinguishing between encryption and authentication, as well as remove the phrase key exchange. Underscoring the difference between giving a password and keeping a private key secure is definitely important too.
In general, I'll look towards cleaning things up. I do want to avoid too much detail though, in order to avoid overwhelming a layperson.
Swami Vivekananda was a representative of Neo-Vedanta Philosophy.
He effectively fused Nationalism and Religion for the upliftment of poor people and to rescue them from oppression by the rich. He endorsed the sciences, leading to Tata creating the Indian Institute of science. He was a force for the propogation of Hinduism in the western Hemisphere.
He was against Untouchability, but wasn’t against the caste system. For him the caste system was one where an individual is not born into a caste but is assigned a caste based on his gunas (actions).
So someone with a lower caste parentage could work upto a higher caste and a Brahmin child could grow up to fall through the ranks of caste.
His views were that - Caste was an early social system. But its complexity led to its failure and abuse.
The teaching of Swami Vivekanada are quite complex. The complexity is evident in the way the students of #JNU treated an uninaugrated statue of Swami Vivekananda.
The thing about JNU students is that they are quite daft. They do not understand the concept of abstract thought let alone Neo-Vedanta Philosophy.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
It is high time we renamed the college #VeerSavarkarUniversity

It's my understanding that the algorithm of each feed is not complex or ML driven at all, and all feeds are chronological; Rob G basically has the gist of it, with the home feed being your toots and everyone you follow, the local being your toots and everyone on your instance, but the federated feed is a bit trickier, in that I understand it's your toots, everyone you follow, and then everyone *they* follow. It can be inflated as well, if your instance uses a relay, which is what I do with my personal instance on lost-angles.im
