I entirely agree with this message on #gunrights. HK is a prime example of the need for such rights in civil defense against tyranny.

At the moment 5% of all new users in the fediverse are joining #QOTO wow!

If the @mastodonusercount bot is to believed then in the last 24 hours the entire fediverse has grown by 1,718 users, similarly we have had 84 new users join QOTO in the last 24 hours.

This means, if those numbers are accurate, that 4.8% of all new fediverse users are QOTO users. Thats very exciting.

Word of warning though. I dont know how the bot gets its numbers, or how accurate it is. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't actually representing the entire fediverse. I need to see if I can find a more reliable source for numbers, a metric like this might be useful, but to be useful it needs to be accurate.

#QOTO just moved from the #2 spot on joinmastodon.org to the #1 spot. I believe this is calculated based on how fast an instance is growing. Seems we are not just one of the largest mastodon instances but we are also now the fastest growing one.

+ I'm old enough to remember the Web of the 1990s/ 2000s.
It was a maze. You followed hypertext links, stumbled into forums and early troll-caves, used Slashdot and GoTo, experimented with LiveJournal and Blogger.

It wasn't safe, it was filled with weirdness, appealed heavily to geeks and loners. Being on the web in that era was a serious trip.

But it wasn't corporate. It wasn't the tool of major governments, yet. It was defiantly decentralised, and when you were online...

... you felt free.

For todays #FollowFriday I'm going to do something a bit different. We have a lot of new users, one of the biggest surges we have seen in a while. As such a lot of new users are looking for high quality, long-standing, accounts to follow. Similarly many of the new users need some help getting attention and making new friends.

As such I am going to do this #FF in a few parts. One for old users I have mentioned in previous posts, as well as some of the new users who have been making quality posts and been active for at least a week now. Hopefully this will be more helpful.

Also a section for some bots might be useful.

I will use a persons profile description here as I dont want to misrepresent anyone.
